I have a 10 week old Labrador. Does anyone have any tips on potty training a puppy? I haven’t had a dog in a long time and I’m trying to be patient with her but I could use some advice from experienced dog handlers.

Potty training is mostly patience and getting the pup outside frequently. They won’t have a chance of holding it overnight. At 10 weeks I take pups out about every 2 hours, even overnight and losing tons of sleep. They’ll build up to 4 hours by 16 weeks and play it by ear from there. Hopefully you have someone to trade off with.
Don’t punish or make a big fuss if they pee inside, it’s just going to happen.

They’ll get used to the smell of outside and asssiciate that with peeling and should mostly be trained by 5-6 months.

The more you get them out regularly the less they’ll have in the bladder when they do pee inside

I used crate training to facilitate potty training with my now 10 year old golden who I got at 6 weeks. The theory is they don't want to go in their crate, so when you open the crate door, let them outside immediately and they build that association.

Potty training went fine, she hated the crate though, so we didn't do that after she was about 3 months old :ROFLMAO:

This. And yell “no” at them if/when they go inside. Two Labradors under my belt. Both learned fairly quickly. Very few accidents inside. We’ve kept all of our dogs 25+ years in a crate as well. Great for nights, especially for Labs, and boarding. A little whining at first, but they’re fine.

We've had labs, we've had rescues and currently have a rescue pitty....we had accidents when she was little - she was abandoned at a rest stop on 40 and we got here at 8ish weeks while her mother and brothers were rescued three weeks prior (according to someone I met through Embark DNA test stuff).

Crate just big enough to turn around, out immediately after crate time, praise when going to the bathroom outside. And learn the signs that they are hunting a spot to pee or poop inside and get them outside right away....

She learned pretty quickly so we were lucky. And she's an inside/outside dog, but only out of crate inside if we are home.

Our lab was trained to only use bathroom in the mulch/natural area but haven't quite gotten this young lady to do the same...

Crate training is the cheat code. Any other method and you're just making it unnecessarily harder on yourself.
