So a car dealer in Tuscaloosa cannot say "If you are no longer enrolled at the University of Alabama the contract is terminated." However, they could get around it by putting something in the contract like "Player must spend one hour a week signing autographs at the dealership for forty weeks of the year", essentially making it prohibitive for the player to transfer very far.

I think most of the school-specific deals will be month-to-month or at-most single year contracts. You will also see a lot of schools operate deals based on an honor system. Like "we can't sign a contract saying we'll take care of you, but don't worry, we'll take care of you". So long as the deal is upheld, kids will keep rolling in.

I’m not sure the NIL rules specify that at all. Such language in the rules would be pretty much pointless, for all the reasons you mentioned. “Hi I’m Nick Saban, if you sign with Alabama, I have $800,000 worth of endorsement contracts that various local businesses will want to sign with you.”

That simple. Contract itself doesn’t say anything about the school, but the contract doesn’t even exist if the kid doesn’t sign on first.

The only thing about the NIL rules that I feel relatively certain about is that there are no NIL rules.

At what point does the NFL just say "17 you, NCAA. We'll start drafting them anytime after they turn 18."?

The NFL doesn't have an age restriction for the benefit of the NCAA. If they thought it was in their best interest to draft players out of high school, that's exactly what they would do.

I would think the opportunity to get out and into the league to start making that money and not have to deal with the BS of academics would be attractive to a lot of juniors. Plus they’d sign a contract, get started on their retirement eligibility, etc would be smart on their part. That is as long as their stock is high. If they need more work, then maybe sticking around for their senior season would make sense.

Bad example. Dak didn't "blow up" until his 4th year, and he had his own decision to make at that point. He decided to come back to school, and be coached under Mullen one more year. He wasn't going anywhere else, a guy with that level of maturity isn't jumping at any opportunity just because. He could have gone elsewhere anyway, as a grad transfer.

It's still about football to most of these guys. That matters more than these piddly NIL deals.

It's piddly to you, but do you even remember Dak's situation by his Junior and Senior year? He was essentially an orphan and a projected 4th or 5th rounder with a number of national media members and draft analysts saying he'll never touch the field as a quarterback, much less start. There's not a person that could have blamed him for taking a deal that helped his family at that point.

Might be worth talking to the 2nd team QB/OL/RB/CB/LB/WR/DL at those schools.... You know to let them know STARTERS get more NIL money.... And they can Transfer and play without waiting...

Honestly, this isn’t a bad take. College football was already ruined. Everyone just wanted to believe Not Alabama had a chance every year, but that was ********.

The endorsements just mean it’s going to get weird. Alabama will stay relevant because they have a disproportional amount of people throwing money at the program given the wealth of the alumni.

What’s going to get interesting is aTm, Florida, and Vandy. The most interesting is Vandy with the largest endowment, richest alumni, and location in a booming metro. I wouldn’t be surprised if Vandy doesn’t wipe their tails with Alabama if things stay this way for a few years.

People think Ole Miss can compete by throwing money at players, and they like Alabama will spend disproportionately, but their alumni base isn’t nearly as wealthy as they like to pretend they are.

Didn’t read all the way through this thread but I wonder how this is going to affect kids playing positions in high school. Why start training at a young age in any position besides QB, or some offense spot? I know positions shake out, but parents and kids are going to want their kids training as a qb from birth now. Not sure if it’s a good or bad thing, just something I was thinking about with this stuff.
