Nice Article on Purv and the work he's being to help our team on and off the court. He truly seems to love everything about UConn and it's family atmosphere. His remarks and attitude seem to be exactly what this team will need this year. I fully expect him to be a captain for this coming season.

"I just want to leave a mark. I want to be that type of UConn guy that's talked about when the coaches talk about their guys. I just want to be the guy who is good in the community, good around the campus."

I'm not sure who said it a year ago but there was mention of Rodney having a bad attitude and was creating lock room issues, but I didn't believe it to be serious then and certainly don't believe it now either. Let's hope Rodney picks up right where he left off at the end of the season

If I recall correctly, Brimah was a co-captain last year:

In terms of experience, Brimah should be captain over Purvis as he has more seniority wearing the uniform. However, the team didn't have great leadership last year and it is fair to revisit the captaincy position. I don't like stripping guys of captaincy or co-captaincy unless they do something to deserve being stripped. I don't see that Brimah has done anything to deserve a strip of his co-captaincy, other than maybe he wasn't a great leader.

If you understand Brimah was a co-captain last year, then it should be a pretty easy to understand that you can have more than one captain on a team. Nobody is suggesting that Brimah be stripped of his co-captaincy, just that Purvis can also be named a captain. It can be amazing how complicated you make thinks with your nonsensical thought processeses sometimes. Just keep it simple, stop over thinking things.

I am not suggesting anyone should strip Brimah of his captaincy, I just meant to say that the captaincy should be an open question. If one goes by seniority Brimah should be a captain or a co captain, and it's possible he could be a co captain again with Purvis, but the whole question should be decided after the preseason. There are precedents in sports for team captaincies being stripped, and I am not saying it should happen here, just that the whole question should be an open one and not decided until after the preseason. Although Gibbs and Miller have no experience with UConn they are 5th year seniors and I wouldn't rule those guys out either. Team leadership is important and I didn't think it was very good last year.

Leadership wasn't the issue, talent and being reliant on players who were not ready to be consistent game in and game out were. They didn't lose games because Brimah was a captain.

Yea Khalid, this wasn't a question of Brimah's captain label. He should remain a captain for this season and I expect Purvis to be his co-captain. There is no way a 5th year transfer would even be considered for the title so you can rule out Gibbs and Miller. Who else has the most tenure in the program and is doing all the right things on and off the court?...Rodney
