David’s son is the HC at Oxford High School. With his age, it wouldn’t shock me to see him retire in the next year or two and retire to Oxford where he still owns a home, and watch his son coach. Then Kiffin could throw him a few hundred thousand a year to be an “offensive Analyst” and help develop Arch. That’s a scenario that I could see playing out. There’s definitely concern in OM circles about LSU. But, crap the kid is a sophomore, so much can change between now and then. And Kiffin likes to go against the grain so much he’s liable to decide not to recruit him hard and go after someone else (which would be career suicide because you all know how much we love to fellatiate a Manning!).
Ole Miss is just in there for obvious reasons. Not because they are better than Duke. But either way, there is no way Duke is more talented than Ole Miss, that's asinine. Not to mention a Manning commitment at Ole Miss would be followed by other talent most likely, just like in 1999. Not so much at Duke.As of right now, Duke is probably more talented than OM, and it’s been that way for a few years due to the probation and attrition. And they don’t play in the SEC West either, so even with less talent the ceiling for wins and losses is about the same. Also don’t underestimate the value of a Duke degree.
Cut not being there forever is a legit argument though, he’d be 71 by the time Arch graduates. That’s getting up there, but not totally unthinkable that he’d still be there. My guess is that the rapport between Cut and the Mannings is strong enough that they’d get an honest assessment on how long he plans to coach before he committed or signed there. If he wasn’t 100%, they’d likely look elsewhere.

The only time I can remember a quarterback this high profile going to a school like Duke was when Luck when to Stanford, so I guess it could be done, but highly unlikely. Maybe Jay Cutler to Vandy, but I don't think he was this highly recruited.
I always thought that firing Cutcliffe was a terrible mistake by Ole Miss. The guy can coach.
I could definitely see that happening. Not the Kiffin part though, I doubt he'll still be in Oxford then.
The problem with that scenario is that analysts aren’t allowed to do any on-field coaching, so there would be no real benefit to having him in that position besides minor amounts of film review and stuff like that. Would be a gross misuse of one of the top developmental QB minds in college football to have him as anything less than a position coach. There is a chance he could hit a bad stretch at Duke and get fired, but I think its highly unlikely that they’ll be so bad that they would pull the trigger knowing that they have the top connection to a rising (probable) 5* QB with the highest degree of pedigree imaginable.
Orgeron needs to show that he can maintain their offense first.
I could really see Clemson getting him
I certainly think Duke and OM will both be in the running. As to the talent level, long term there will be more at OM obviously, which is probably more relevant than what the current talent levels are anyway. But that really doesn’t matter, as Cut has already proven he can produce the #6 overall pick, even with Duke talent. The bigger overall point is neither school is ever winning their conference or competing for the CFP, so the bigger priority should be development for the NFL. The gaps between each school’s talent vs. the annual competition is about the same.
Hate or not...there’s just no chance. Recruiting a Manning is such a different ballgame than Joe Blow from the Delta who’s a 5* super athlete RB or whatever. That family will see straight through all the “showing the love” BS that is a part of the normal recruiting process. They will place a premium on development, where probably no one can touch Cutcliffe in their eyes (has three Top 6 NFL draft pick QB’s on his resume with two of those being Mannings, who else can say that). Kiffin, if he’s still there, will probably have a nice sales pitch, but will not have nearly the track record of many folks recruiting him. Family loyalty history with OM will play a factor too, but it will likely be a distant 2nd to the development aspect. It’s certainly going to be interesting to watch.

I mean I’m sure they’d give him a position coaching spot if he wanted, but I doubt he would. He’d just be there to help with his mechanics and the intricacies of the QB position. Cutcliffe is getting on up there in years and his health hasn’t been great, so it wouldn’t shock me to see him retire and move close to his grandchildren and maybe help Chris with the high school program. Him being there would be something obviously important to the Manning’s, because they believe in him so much.
I’m not predicting it, but I imagine there will be an all out war over his signature, and that could be a deciding factor. I do know Cooper is the biggest Ole Miss fan of the whole family, but the family is also smart and they’ll evaluate this with Arch’s best interest in mind. If Kiffin has us trending in the right direction and offense looking good, Ole Miss will be the favorite. If he doesn’t, and we are as unstable as we’ve been for last 5 years or so? Then who knows where he could wind up?
Well the good thing for the kid himself is that he’ll have all the options in the world. If he really wants to lead a team to a NC in college (something neither of his famous uncles or grandfather ever did), he can always go to Bama / LSU / OSU / UGA and roll. If he wants to follow the NFL developmental path of his uncles, there is Duke if Cut is still around past turning 70. And if he just wants to go with his first love, there is OM. I imagine all of those places will, without question, hold a spot for him all the way up to late signing day, and he’ll get to make the choice he wants no matter what. I predict his final 5 will be OM, Duke, Tennessee, and a couple of those blue bloods above, and we’ll see what happens from there.
Is he that good a player, or is everybody just assuming he'll be good because his name is Manning?
I was an Archie fan and it had nothing to do with football. It was the way he handled his father's suicide.
Feel free to worship their "class" as you wish. I have personally seen the other side.I get why rival fans get sick of the Mannings, but anyone who’s rational will admit they’re a class family. I imagine y’all view them similar to how I do Dak - wish he’d played college football somewhere else, but I can’t dislike him. He’s a good person, who always says the right thing, and represents himself and MSU (OM) with nothing but class.

I think they are fine. Never pulled for them much but was glad to see Peyton win his 2nd SB with the Broncos. I pulled for Archie when he was with the Saints but he got unlucky playing for them during that era. I imagine they all dislike MSU but that's ok as I dislike OM. But I'm not one of those types that can't have friends from the other side as I do. We just have to stay off the topic of MSU vs OM.![]()
