On KSR today (yes I know many don’t like KSR, no need for jokes), when Matt was talking about multiple staff changes, Ryan Lemmond seemed to slip up and say bringing “back” a staff member? Don’t have the exact wording because it’s still live, but sounds more and more like a staff member will be “returning”. Antigua sounds more and more likely.

Good Lord Kyle Tucker is stupid.He just posted that Justus may take another job and it will be a blow to UK's recruiting!!!
That's when the Cal Era was at it's best....recruiting and performance on the court was when Antigua was here IMO.
Tucker is mad cause Justus was the guy leaking him info I think.
Bring back Antigua and replace Flint and Barbee as well with some other stud assistants.

Id love Antigua back.. because it basically shows us Cal is willing to make the right changes and is following through.
But I also don't know if Antigua or even Payne are some sort huge fixes that the fans think we desperately need. I certainly hope they are. But there's a chance these guys come back and things don't change as much as we hope. I think this forum has built up Payne/Antigua to lofty levels, in an attempt to pinpoint why and where Kentucky and Cal went wrong.
But id absolutely welcome him back. Not trying to be a pessimist.

Hopefully our recruiting elevates if Antigua really does return. But you’re right, if he comes back and recruiting doesn’t improve then people will get heated.

Unless Justus is replaced by a homerun recruiter, it will be a blow to UK recruiting. I feel like Jai Lucas will help out, but Barbee and Bruiser aren't the recruiters that Joel is.

Should have clarified, just the part about everyone longing for both these guys, which I do as well. Some have mentioned here that maybe Cal could lure Payne back, but that idea never had legs.. Plus the Knicks are killing it lately, he ain't leaving.
JJ leaving and Antigua coming back. This is the rumblings for sure. Heard two weeks ago that Cal was wanting to bring in a new guy; but I didn’t know it would be OA. But Cal will not fire or let go of anyone; so depends on JJ getting new gig. I don’t think it involved Barbee.
Matt eluded to two current staff members leaving I believe (can’t remember for sure), but said Jai Lucas would not be one of them. If two are leaving, Barbee seems like the most likely other one.
Media loves Justus bc he is everyone’s source. Problem is he loves to prematurely _____________ and post something on Twitter and then proceed to bungle the recruitment and lose to another school. I’m sure he’s a nice enough guy and has some coaching ability but the narrative that he’s a stud recruiter is false. There’s no second place in recruiting. Im actually surprised cal has kept him around this long.
Jai is a better recruiter than Barbee and Justus combined. Players, coaches, people love Jai Lucas just like they trust his dad. He’s been a recruit so he knows what they are going through. He’s from a bball family with connections that run deeper than we can imagine. Plus he’s a well spoken articulate guy and not geriatric. That is he’s closer to recruits age than a Barbee.
That wasn't the only slip. Last week when Matt was talking about staff changes, he said there was a guy he knew for sure that Cal wanted to bring BACK. It was either Thursday or Friday last week.
Ryan also said “last year Cal brought in a couple of new faces. Now this year he might be bringing in a new name.”
Cosch O isn’t a new face but would be a new name on the staff. Maybe I’m reading too much into it.

I thought someone posted here some months back that Barbee wanted a Head Coaching job again. My forgetter is getting better all the time so i may be wrong on this.
Get rid of Justus and Barbee, hire Coach O and then go get Jalen Rose to help recruit and call it a day.
I get wanting to get rid of Barbee. But have never understood the hate for Justus. He does his job which is to be a lead recruiter and has played a big part in a lot of the guys we’ve landed. I assume it’s just people talking and not knowing what they are talking about. People love Jai because he’s new and a great recruiter. It seems people have just gotten tired of Justus.
It’s obviously because recruiting fell off around the time Justus became an assistant. Now many say that’s because of outside factors, not the coaching staff. Of course others just see that as an excuse for subpar performance.
Justus, Lucas, and Antigua would be a really good recruiting trio
Antigua quickly got himself into trouble at S Florida. I know it is a popular idea around here to bring him back, but I’m not convinced that is a good idea at this point. However, I do believe this staff can use a little more tweaking. What we need is an assistant coach who can replace KP’s invaluable developmental skills with our bigs. That isn’t Antigua, but it is where we really need an upgrade.
You guys do know that JJ was the lead recruiter for guys like De Aron Fox, Bam, Maxey et al so he’s not exactly chopped liver. The others? I really don’t know what their duties are. We need somebody toughening up the guys on the inside. Thru all this late recruiting and portal sniffing, I’ve yet to see one guy that can be an enforcer, a leader, a vocal captain on the floor. Oscar is an enforcer but he’s more like a silent assassin
KSR said at least one but maybe 2 staff changes. Lucas is safe. The others won’t be fired but changes are coming.
