Anyone else sick of the QR Code ....

******** ordering. I can see looking at the menu but ordering when you have a server or bartender standing right there. What’s the 17ing purpose of ordering like this ??
Close a ticket out and pay on-line, decide you want another beer or add a coke to your breakfast order you have to go back in and start another order instead of telling the server right in front of you!

I dislike it because it just serves as a gatekeeper and keeps people from doing something as quickly as possible.

That said, there are times when it is helpful-- when it is a gatekeeper-- and allows people to order merchandise at shows. Billy Strings' crew had a nice setup at Mobile three months ago.

Yes. I try to stay off my phone as much as possible. This is just one more reason to keep me on it.

But there again, it's probably a good business model, because most people are buried on their phones, even during a meal with other people, so it gets things done with minimal effort by the wait staff.

On a separate note, most people simply do not understand how rude it is to be on their phone while talking to others. They simply have no clue.

Eh. It depends on the situation (e.g., if the person being texted is a close family member or friend then it's understandable so long as the conversation is kept short).

I'm an introvert who hates small talk which means there are times I'm buried in my phone just so I don't have to chat with people but I don't do that when I'm eating with others.

I like it, more efficient and accurate, especially in these times of labor shortages, it frees up more staff to actually prepare and get your food/drinks prepared and to you. I also like self check outs at retail establishments. Obviously, it sometimes limits your ability to have an interaction with a hot waitress, but we all must sacrifice.

Don't know if they still do it or not but MS Legends Sports Bar in Flowood had a little kiosk for ordering at the table and it worked well. You ordered everything and they brought it out and when you were ready to leave you totaled it out and left. It worked well the few times I ate there. That has been probably 4 or so years ago. I don't mind QR codes for looking at the menu because of the number of times you are seated and its 10 minutes till you see a menu. For straight forward stuff its ok I guess (but not really) because it becomes a pain in the arse if you want to leave lettuce & tomato off the burger, order a drink w/ something other than house brands, etc. It's just a continuation of "the dumbing down of America"

I like them. No sticky, nasty menu is an upgrade. As far as ordering from your phone, as long as it improves your efficiency it is fine with me. I do like asking for recommendations from my server. If it removes that interaction, I would be disappointed.

Related note-

I went to a mall on Sunday and as I walked in, there were giant QR codes on the heavy glass doors at the entrance. You needed to scan the code to get the mall's hours of operation. What the 17?!? Just print the mall's hours on the doors like its been done for decades.
This QR code would then allow you to search stores within the mall to get specific hours. Apparently thats helpful for anyone that has never used google to just look up a store's hours.

I hereby declare that from this day forth, no citizen of these United States should ever feel compelled to tip more than 10% to a waitstaff that doesn't take down your order. In fact, I suggest 15 minutes or so after we order, we just head on back to the kitchen and get the food ourselves and eliminate the waitstaff completely. Feel free to tip the busboy if you are feeling guilty.

If they were paid more than $2 / hour, I would completely agree with you. Tipping is a ******** way for restaurants to underpay staff and put the burden on the customer.

That said, it has to be a serious situation for me to not tip 20% because I know wait staff gets paid jack.

I'm tired of tip cups where the employee does nothing at all. Got frozen yogurt last night, employee was on a stool reading her phone when I walked in. I walked in and made my selection, went to the counter and she finally showed signs of life when I put the yogurt on the scale and it automatically rang up the order for her. All she had to do was hand me a receipt after I swiped my card, but yet, there was a tip cup there with a list of employees and why they needed tips i.e. school supplies, gas their car, etc.

Simple explanation is that minimum wage sucks ***.

A tip cup is a way for them to possibly make enough for it to be worthwhile to show up to work, while the employer doesn't have to bother with a decent wage. Cost of living keeps going up, minimum wage keeps staying the same, and we wonder why people aren't jumping at the chance to fill minimum wage jobs right now.

Quick FYI. There are still places in these United States where one is able to enjoy outstanding service (prompt, courteous, helpful, accommodating, friendly, mannerable). And one is not required to be tech savvy to enjoy said service. One notices quickly that when one exits a certain region of the country, the quality of the service improves DRAMATICALLY.

Food and service suck *** where I am. Went to one of the higher end joints in town a couple of weeks ago... Everyone promised us a great experience and good food.

Food sucked, but they have this excellent wine and liquor collection. I told the waiter (40+ year old man) I want a scotch neat. Needed to explain that meant no ice. He brings me an ounce and a half of 15 year old Dalwhinnie in a shot glass like we are in Panama City. I sent it back and had to explain I wanted 3 fingers in a rocks glass, no ice.

Pretty sure he stuck 3 fingers in it.
