College football is to toxic anymore and more dramatic than 99% of soap operas? I've been struggling to even pay attention to what I used to love.

Obviously you have covid overload. Imagine a virus so deadly it can make you think college football is toxic.

Here's the remedy. Watch all the NFL you can until college football comes on. Avoid the woke retards at ESPN as much as possible. Stay off Facebook. Whatever you do don't watch the damn news. Get ready for the first Husker game. Enjoy it with friends and beers and pizza or burgers. Highly recommend nachos as well.

Do this through December and let us know how you're feeling then.

How many things that we once took for granted can fall into the same category these days? Families, politics, schools, relationships, etc, etc.

with the big 12 dissolving, I see a blue chip/5 star recruits heading to Nebraska a lot more.
there's a possibility tu and 0u get hammered in the sec or at least will be held to standards.
I think mill's running last year, made something click in frost head, and remember the need for a running game,
think ammon green/the running back position seems somewhat solid.
the defense I think will be good and have hope for the o-line.
martinez is a senior, and may put it together this year.
we will finally get a 4 team playoff. (not that it affects us, yet...).
we have 3 winnable games till we play a #1 team, beating #1 teams help in polls.
we have 150 million dollar facilities soon (I think).
big payout is going to 100 million per team. (25 million in btc, eth, ada & dot)
I feel k-states pain heading to the mwc, but it's funny at the same time.

even though frost maybe a solich and not a dr. tom, he may have smart enough people around him to make it work (our dc, alberts, the hawaiian guy, lb/db coaches.. etc..) plus if he fails , isu's coach is available.
after winning 3 NC's in 4 years, realistically there would be a down side, but after being 2nd from the bottom in the big west, there should be an upside coming. (no bs, lay ears back and play)
with NIL we need a person or two that works directly with players, making them big money, yet at the same time watching they don't screw-up on social media, and pay their taxes.
the future's so bright I gotta

I'm becoming more and more disconnected with sports in general. I've had season tickets for Husker football, men's basketball and volleyball for more than 25-30 years now and watching the events of the past year or so really has me wondering what we're going to encounter when we enter the stadiums/arenas once again this fall. I will say this - if I am hit with a bunch of political discourse and the like that's it I'm done. I attend these events to shut out the outside world if only for a few hours. I still control my checkbook and retain the power of the pen and I'm not afraid to exercise that power to stop writing the checks, be it for one sport or all of them. My guess is that I'm not alone in this line of thinking.

There better not be any BLM mentions. Given that it was just revealed that one of George Floyds arrests involved a home invasion where he held a gun to the stomach of a pregnant woman, I think that SOB deserved to die. He was POS. Any BLM crap and I'm done. It was a preplanned fake political motivated riot which set back race relations decades.

That was NOT just revealed.....WE KNEW that at the time of his death May 2020. I guess some of us watch too much Don LemonHEAD and Rachel MadCOW on cable "news"...

I agree that sports are a sacred place for no politics. Unfortunately, there are people on this board who somehow think politics affect every part of their lives. But I’m curious to know how you think you’ll be hit with political discourse attending sporting events. Do you mean taking a knee? Fights in the stands? I’m hit with political discourse every time I open this forum.

I am with you on the disconnect from sports. I haven't watched the NBA for years, caught the Olympic VB a couple times but that was about it, watch the NFL only if it is cold and I can't find something else to do, try to watch Huskers in everything but watching an entire BB or FB game has been pretty brutal and it is easy to not get interested.

All that said from my perspective, there is a great amount of encouragement from "influencers" telling athletes to "use their platform" whether at the pro or armature levels. Then you throw in the celebs doing the same thing and you have that situation you mentioned where you can't get away from it for a time of solice.

We find ourselves retreating more and more from some of this nonsense and politic mess. However, the problem is I also believe we need to stand up and be heard as that this the goal of the influencers, to squash some of us down so we don't speak up for others, for our rights and for some sense of right and wrong.

I bet if people went an entire year with the ability to somehow tune out politics, they'd find that their lives didn't change one bit. The good ol' foundation of work hard, be honest, treat others as you'd wish to be treated will result in more good than bitching on social media about politician A or B.

This is 100% true, and I believe this is pretty much what happens in every day life. I work with and live by a diverse set of people. We all have our political views, but those pretty much go out the window 99% of the time. We are all worried about making some money, raising our kids right and trying to have some fun on this earth. Social media doesn't necessarily mirror what is happening in the real world. If you read social media or watched the news you would think we are on the brink of a civil war, but that isn't the case.

Totally agree. Was just telling a co-worker yesterday I'm really looking forward to the NFL season. College football sucks unless you root for one of 3-4 teams.

Agreed, great point....Social media and message boards are a lot of times more about getting approval from others and looking cool than anything else.

Throw in the anonymity of message boards, and you end up with a lot of know it alls and keyboard tough guys that would never say in person what they type all over message boards. Social media and message boards most certainly have added fuel to the divide in this country, heck- just look at this site lately....

I think many are finding it more and more difficult to maintain the positive energy towards college football. Not just Cornhusker fans either. Unless you're a fan of Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, Ohio St (or maybe a few others), it's tough. That said, GBR!

To a certain degree, it’s always been a bit that way. It gets harder the further removed from success you are.

When your team stinks you look more of college football as a whole, which is usually the bad or negative things that make headlines.

It’s much easier when your own team is decent and you can just read your own teams fluff pieces all year.

This has been building for the past several years. It is no longer about win and losses as much as it is about the money. Conferences aligning themselves with networks for guaranteed income, and then starting their own network for the money, now looking into mega conferences for the money and control over the playoffs.

Head coaches need to be babysitter, franchise CEO's, marketing directors, and somewhere in that rats nest be a leader of the coaches he has assembled. It is no longer being a developer of young men, the transfer portal took care of that. Head coaches need to track the P&L more closely with the wins and loses and injuries of players.

NIL has taken the amateurism out of the game. High school players now can select college over high school if their net worth will suffer. The universities now have to almost guarantee players how much money they can make while playing football. This will be the death nail of FBS level football. The FCS will take the place of the FBS; FBS will be in essence a minor league development league for the NFL and other pro franchises soon to appear. The NBA only requires 1 semester of college to become eligible for the draft and it has decimated college BB. NIL is the death nail of FBS.

I remember when New Years Day was the high point of the college season, now the Bowls and the playoffs have pissed that away. The Bowl committees need to decide how they are going to morph into something that takes the place of home field advantage in the normal playoff structure. Fans will not be able to afford to travel to 3 games while advancing through the system. But then again, it is all about the money...

Had never heard it but I had pretty much tuned everybody out during the riots. I couldn't stand watching much of it after the first few days. I knew that POS Minnesota state AG had withheld the whole arrest video that showed Floyd kicking and spitting on the cops who were trying to put him the squad car. That's why he ended up on the ground with somebody's knee on his neck. I hadn't heard his rap sheet. They didn't have that up on that huge mural at his memorial service that showed him with wings and a halo floating in the sky.

A lot of us were out there trying to get the whole story out because the media was intentionally hiding the truth. It should not be a tiny minority of people that know Floyd was fighting the cops for a hour before his death and complaining that he can't breathe while sitting alone in the police car (at which point the police were as accommodating as humanly possible). The entire fact that our news media no longer tries to inform us but instead pushes false storylines that lead to real good human beings having their lives destroyed to make career criminals into saints should make us all question the state of society.

I'm sure CNN and MSNBC will do a complete HONEST expose about George Floyd's history leading up to and including the 8 hours before his death. That will be followed by a two hour special by NPR and Public TV about his behavior and the detrimental effects of combining meth, fentanyl and booze. Our news media has become nothing more than tabloid trash.
