I know this is baseball but any umpires want to comment on this guy? Do you think he’s being paid? By whom? Home team?

He's got his eyes lined up with the right edge(from the pitcher's perspective) of the batter's box. How the heck would he see things accurately from the left edge of the box. Dumb on where he's lining up. That comment should have been made to him at some point in the game, by a coach asking for a conference.

Umpires always lineup on the inside corner. This is standard at all profesional levels. The outside corner is usually where umpires make mistakes.

Mistakes aren’t confined to college or high school games. Vic Carapazza wants to be as bad as Angel Hernandez, if that’s possible.

Exactly I umpired for 35 years at high school level and that is where he is supposed to line up for right hand hitters and the other corner for left hand hitters.

What did the radar show for his velo?

When we played travel tourneys, the studs with "pop" got more calls than the "Maddox clones".

In one tourney, the kid with mid 90s velo couldnt hit the broad side of a barn but recorded 12ks in 5 innings while our contact pitcher threw 65 pitches in 2 innings..

These videos are why we need an electronic strike zone. It’s crazy to try & play a competitive game with an umpire that bad.

Hitters also need to realize that the blue is calling that pitch and adapt to it. The bigger problem is if he is inconsistent with his strike zone or favors one pitcher over another.

Too much computerization is killing a beautiful game. Advanced 21st century A.I. and analytics have no place in a 19th century game.

I agree. Electronic strike zone would kill the game. Part of the game is accounting for human error. Sometimes you are going to get bad calls but that is also why I love the game. It's real....it's not perfect. Makes it more exciting, fans get to boo or cheer.

I never umpired but I coached for many years. As a coach I would be livid if that was happening to my player. As a fan, don't change it!!!! These type of umpires are not the norm. However, we do run across them and you have to learn to adapt to their zone. In this case, I don't know if there is adapting to a ball 10 inches off the plate. With that said he should be getting regular perfomance reviews and if this is his norm he is not long for the ump game.

The strike zone is the most inconsistent thing in baseball and changes between both umpires and the actual batters AND may change during a single at bat. The reason I don't think it has gone to an electronic system yet is because a smaller batter is going to have a smaller strike zone but the stupid boxes they leave on the TV stay in the same spot all the time.

I'm not defending this guy though. 2 of those pitchers were in the other batter's box and nowhere close to being a strike in any system except and arbitrary one. I am all for a strike zone that forces hitters to swing the bat because there are way too many hitters' umpires out there who shrink the zone to the size of the baseball so that the ball would have to be thigh high on a 2 inch stripe over the middle of the plate.

I thought VAR would ruin football … er soccer.

It took a bit, but for the most part it’s a welcome addition.

The question here isn’t why VAR could help here. It’s why has this guy been allowed to continue after review. This surely is not a one off for him.

Teams from some big-time programs came here to play TU at the American Legion ballpark at LaFortune Park -- Notre Dame, Southern Cal, Missouri among them.

We saw USC play at old Oiler Park. Got autographs from Anthony Davis when my father found him after the game and apologized for racial comments that he had to endure from some fans while playing in right field. Nice guy.

I remember as a kid going to Tulsa baseball games at both LaFortune Park and Rogers High School. I believe those fields may still be available.
We are an FBS football program. We aren’t going to rent out a high school stadium nor would the conference allow it. Find an alum with the money to rent the Drillers facilities and build anything we need to practice and we will have baseball tomorrow.

TU is going to outlast or out wait the Bring Back Baseball cult. Most of the fans who fondly remember baseball's halycon days at TU are in their 70s and their numbers are shrinking. In a few years there will be no one left to raise the Bring Back Baseball rallying cry.

Practice facility? We don’t need one of those. The guys used to practice on the turf in the football stadium. They even hosted an MLB exhibition game there once upon a time.

I hope Huff didn’t really think I was being serious.
