My son went a whole night without his paci (woowoo) for the first time last night. He’s definitely too old for a paci, but his mom has been reluctant to do away with it, but I’ve put my foot down finally.

He didn’t throw a fit, but he was pretty sad, and geez it’s heart breaking as a parent. Makes me feel horrible.

Anybody want to share their end-of-pacifier stories?

I’m fixing to go through the same thing before long. And woo boy do I dread it. He loves that paci.

We never used one on either one of our kids. My mom (former nurse) was adamant that we shouldn’t use one so we never did.

As far as a horror story - one of my daughter’s friend’s younger sister used one WAY too long. I’m talking until kindergarten. She has a severe speech impediment that her parents blame on the paci use. She’s going into the 4th grade now and still has issues and goes to speech therapy 2 times a week.

For sure. Its completely random and it doesnt stop as they age, it just projects in different ways.
As toddlers they will hate **** they loved and love **** they hated.
Same for teens, teens, etc.

My oldest would be a gold medal champ at losing her mind over anything and nothing.

Ain’t that the truth. The other day my 4 year old was planning a “surprise” where he was trying to put a bunch of his stuffed animals in the linen closet next to his bedroom. I just happened to walk into the hallway to grab something out of the bathroom while he was doing it, and he flipped the 17 out for like 30 minutes just because I saw him putting them in there.

It’s rough. Last night sucked bad (2nd night without paci).

He gets visually anxious knowing he’s not getting it.

Dang man, that is tough. We've quit giving our son one during the day already, except for nap time and bed time, and he gets so excited when he sees it. He's a really good kid, but he loves that paci so much.

There's not much worse than seeing your kid struggle or truly be upset. Especially when it's something that you can actually fix, but you know you're doing what's best for them. It's just hard, because they aren't old enough to understand the reasoning or rationale, and I'm sure it's heartbreaking. Hang in there man, sounds like you've got the hardest part behind you. You're doing the right thing.
