Any concern for our Defense??

Overall I’m bullish on the defense for next year. The defense was still very good this year while not elite. Replacing guys like Graves, Llewellyn, Hall, XN and Hurkett won’t be easy but none of those guys individually are game changers. Unlike years past when we’ve had to replace absolute game changers like Josey, Desmond, Josh Jackson, AJE, Anthony Nelson, Jack Campbell, and CDJ.
Epenesa and Anderson oddly were put in during Vandys last TD drive. A guy I wonder if they try and pack on the pounds and move inside do to being behind some of younger guys he came in with is Drew Campbell.
I do love these threads though. We need two shut down CBs. Lets just go get those. Lolol... as if there out there, and if they were Iowa would be the only school going after them. Its like some guys never watch other college or pro games. Some REALLY good DB's in the league get burnt deep by other really good athletes partly because the WR knows where he's going and if he gets the step on you he has you beat. Then when you have a QB who drops it in the well the way Pavia did a couple of times yesterday, your beat. Period.
I know I'm getting quite a bit of hate for posting this and that's fine, just trying to create conversation and I really was disappointed watching our 2nd half D yesterday... I guess I am just used to us being lights out the last several years and getting those big stops that win us the ballgame. It is refreshing to see us our O finally carry us to a win and they did that a few times this season!

As long as Parker is at the helm.
TJ was awful, our safeties were out of position/took bad angles multiple times, & our LB’s were too slow.
Need to find a legit corner & play our more athletic LB’s next season.

Actually we rarely get "the last stop" to win the game against ranked teams. Now if your talking about Braska, sure we usually clamp those fools.
exactly. We hold them almost 20 points below what they've been averaging, but we're horrible.
Most of this pissing match just shows how spoiled we are as Iowa fans by some of the defensive units Phil has produced over the years. Was the D this year as good as the '21 or '23 defenses? No, but they were still top 10 in the country.
Not concerned with the Defense overall, they are consistently a strong unit of the team.
My only concern is that there were 2 games this year where we looked strong in the first half. And then the other team apparently made halftime adjustments. And the whole 2nd half we struggle, don’t appear to have an answer to their adjustment. USC and Vandy.

Iowa ranked 10th nationally in second half points allowed at 7.4.
Sharar made a couple of great sacks on delayed blitzes, like he was shot out of a cannon. But those type of plays were too few and far between the entire year for the entire LB group.
I'm sure they are great kids, but they were underwhelming as a group this year IMO. Montgomery returns, hope grows about 4-5 inches taller.........time to see what the kids have.
Was glad to see a rare time against a good team where Iowa's Offense was on the field to end it.
