  • Called for change: Rhule said the events surrounding George Floyd's death necessitated "fundamental change" and systemic reform.
  • Emphasized player support: He told players they were free to express their opinions and protest social injustice and that he would support their decisions.
  • Considered kneeling: Rhule stated he would "support his players with whatever they do" and would "really think deeply about what is the best thing for me and what is the best way I can show my support," even considering taking a knee himself.

  • Mentioned other victims: He also mentioned the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor as part of the tragic events that prompted his statements.

I love that Matt shares our Nebraska values and morals.

I am sure he would say the opposite if it would make you feel better. But again, he was in the NFL during these events, with a team of full grown men, a large majority being black adults. Although I don't like the identity politics of the issue, police officers kill 1000 people a year in America...most of them white, and at least some of them not "deserving" being killed by government officials. So it probably is an issue that deserves and has faced reform...precisely because police brutality and lack of training is an issue that plagues all groups of people. I am sure though there are thousands of husker fans that would take your side because of comments he made four or five years ago while coaching in another league.

Matt Rhule helped transform policing and in some cases he helped defund police
