I'll never forget the day my dad came into my room when I was 14 years old and said with a sad smile "what's would you say is the worst thing that could possibly happen to the Kentucky team this year?" God, we should have had a three-peat.

Anyway, this team does kinda have that super fast, fun feel to it doesn't it?

I was at that Auburn game, very pedestrian injury to DA but, did not go down holding his knee, you could tell he knew it was bad, more a limp and look on his face that this could not be happening. It was one he ran to bench but it looked not too bad but you just knew because DA knew since he had one before. The look. Terrible day

This team reminds me of how it felt watching that 97 team before DA was injured.
i told an old uk friend this same thing last night. i guess it's the quickness, length, athleticism and high flying transition game that triggers the comparison for me. '97 team before da went down was one my favorite teams ever. talk about fun to watch.

Outside of Mercer and DA no one else on that team has the quick and bounce of the rest of this years team..
Wayne Turner was pretty quick.

I remember when Anderson went down, Digger Phelps immediately proclaimed that Kansas was the favorite to win it all. And in his press conference after beating Utah in the E8, Pitino was asked about his reaction to Kansas' losing to Arizona and said "I feel sorry for Roy Williams." Nobody believed him.

Fox and Monk have the same speed and smoothness that Anderson and Mercer had,Jeff Shepard was red shirted I think,I guess Epps and Edwards was pretty quick too,but other than the guards it's a tough comparison. While Bam Adebayo is a big strong guy,Jamal Magloire was "The Enforcer" .
For comparison purposes only

De'Aaron Fox = Derek Anderson
Malik Monk = Ron Mercer
Isaiah Briscoe = Anthony Epps
Bam Adebayo = Jamal Magloire
Derek Willis = Scott Padgett
Wenyen Gabriel = Oliver Simmons (yes I know it gets harder from here on)
Isaac Humphries = Nazr Mohammed
Dominique Hawkins = Wayne Turner
Sacha Killeya-Jones = Jared Prickett
Mychal Mulder = Allen Edwards
Brad Calipari = Cameron Mills

Jeff Sheppard and Heshimu Evans disn't play that year

Turner's speed was the difference the following year when we ran Stanford and Utah to death. Neither team had
anything left in the tank down the stretch and Turner was unfazed. :sunglasses:
