Class of 2025 prospect Parker Jefferson, a three-star center, is taking an official visit to Piscataway, he confirmed to NJ Advance Media.

Did Dortch get any NIL last year as an incoming freshman?

If so, then I'm not sure he should really be lauded for burning his redshirt to help the team.
He was getting paid to not play and ended up having to play.

Like his potential. Actually think we can be ok at Forward with Grant Dortch Buchanan and Nwili. They’re athletic and long. Just our backcourt and Center position is bottom of Big Ten caliber, bottom D1 caliber. And who is scoring the ball ?

Dortch only played 75 minutes last season, primarily at the 5, all in conference. Compared to the other centers in conference play he appeared to have more energy on defense but fouled way too much. In his 75 minutes, he had 17 fouls, while Ogbole had 18 fouls in 158 minutes, Martini had 21 fouls in 316 minutes, and Somerville had 54 fouls in 476 minutes.

On the plus side Dortch had 4 steals and 6 blocks in 75 minutes which matched Ogbole’s blocks and steals in 158 minutes, was arguably better than Martini’s 5 steals and 2 blocks in 316 minutes and almost as many as Somerville’s 9 steals and 8 blocks in 427 minutes.

Such low block and steals numbers from the center position were a big reason Rutgers interior defense was so bad last year. At least Dortch shows some potential on the defensive end and is one reason it is good to have him back.

I like Bryce. Great attitude, gave good effort every time he was on the floor. The kind of kid we enjoyed rooting for and watching develop over 4 years.

Not too concerned about the fouls, as 8 of the 17 occurred in just 2 games. He only had 9 fouls in the other 10 games (he played an average of 5 minutes and committed one foul in those games).

We watched him get manhandled and pushed around pretty good, but he never backed down and never complained. A solid teammate who will be easy to cheer for next season and beyond.

For the reasons Jerry gives:

Probably the most important line in these announcements:

"The expected decision is confirmed a day before the portal officially closes."

Most likely his handlers were looking for a better deal right to the last moment.

Having said that, welcome back to Bryce...thanks for giving us one more season. Go RU!

I doubt it. He didn’t play enough to warrant a better deal yet.
