I have noticed while going through my spreadsheet for the upcoming basketball season that some of the in season tournaments have either gone away or are shortening to 4 teams in 2 days. My favorite was the Myrtle Beach Invitational and last year was its finale. It used to be the Puerto Rico Tip-Off and then was relocated to Myrtle beach because of the Hurricanes that ravaged Puerto Rico. The following year they made it permanent in Myrtle Beach. Back when I was a kid the All College tournament was a pretty big thing in Oklahoma. I would like to see them bring that back and to keep it a regional thing. It could alternate sites between the arena in Oklahoma City (whatever they have it named this week) and maybe the BOK center in Tulsa. Have it with 8 regional teams. I would suggest Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, Tulsa, Saint Louis, Nebraska, SF Austin and Arkansas State. Teams entered are negotiable. This would keep away from any matchups in conference. At the very least have it as a Big 4 tournament with Tulsa, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Oral Roberts. If they do a Big 4 then they could alternate between the BOK and the Arena in OKC.
What made me think of this not only about the tournaments, but Philadelphia has what they call the Big 5 classic. It has Villanova, Temple, La Salle, Penn, Saint Joseph's. they added Drexel later to help resuscitate the tournament. We already play Oral Roberts and We need to get back to playing OKie State and Oklahoma.
