I don't know Alabama law but sounds like he should at least be charged as an accessory for bringing the gun which was used to kill a young lady. What area you guys/gals thoughts on this?
Agree and for Oats to say "wrong spot at the wrong time" is a lame *** excuse.I agree. What did he think was going to happen when he brought someone a loaded weapon? The coach and AD should be fired for not, at the very least, suspending him. But they want to win and that is all they care about apparently. If this had been a bench warmer, he would not be on the team. This is gross. Im all about the second amendment but this is a case of gross negligence at least. It's no different than bringing a drunk friend a car and saying "Keys are in the ignition" and then the kid kills someone while drunk driving.
Who Miller or the other dude that’s in jail lol?Ugly situation. Is he off the team?
Ridiculous. Just guessing that Bama will just hope that it passes over timeGood Lord Miller is playing tonight. Yikes.
Stopped for a few minutes due to fight in the stands. When Brandon was at the line the crowd was chanting "lock him up". I would have waited for a home game to bring him backHe returned a loaded gun to the guy? He wasn't returning an I Pod. You would want this guy suiting up for your team?
Look at your first statement ! “ he returned a loaded gun to the guy!” What was he supposed to do . Unload the bullets for him and say hey it’s in the hat but I took your bullets threw them away . It was the dudes gun not his . This a mute point legally and yes the victims parents will probably attempt to sue him civilly after the trail but that is it . Y’all read way to much into certain situationsHe returned a loaded gun to the guy? He wasn't returning an I Pod. You would want this guy suiting up for your team?
Pretty sure he didn’t have a license or gun permit to even temp possess a firearm. He shouldn’t have been playing last night. I know you said it in jest but if he can get close enough to a rabbit to shoot it with a handgun he has a future as a military sniper if the NBA doesn’t work out If this situation had unfolded at Duke I’d be horrified if he was still playing A player was suspended for 11 games this year at FSU for having his plane tix paid forBrandon probably borrowed the gun to go rabbit hunting.
Be vewy vewy quiet. I’m hunting wabbit.Brandon probably borrowed the gun to go rabbit hunting.
The fact of the matter is that, regardless of who was the owner of the gun, Miller did possess the gun for some period of time. My guess is that he was unlicensed and underage. Not the kind of kid you should want in your program. The fact that the cops may have been unable to pin something on him does not mean that he did not do anything wrong. We need to know more of the circumstances around how and why he came into possession of the gun in the first place. Btw, Shey you talk as if you know a lot about the law. Are you an attorney? From your pronouncements as to what is or is not legal, I am guessing that you are not. OFCLook at your first statement ! “ he returned a loaded gun to the guy!” What was he supposed to do . A lot of these guys’ heads are filled with poison from an early age. From all directions. Because of a relative few incidents in a nation of three hundred mil people they’re taught to not respect authority and everyone’s out to get them; the irony is they’re much more likely to be killed by another member of their own race than some random White dude I’ll save the rest for the Lounge before I run afoul of the modsNothing in this story surprises me. Nothing, from the incident where young men are stupidly getting involved with guns, to Miller thinking that he doesn't have to make good decisions about what he's doing at 1 in the morning, to the school and coach sweeping the whole thing under the rug.
College sports are broken. I wish I didn't love it so much.
Agree. Y’all remember back in the 90s when FSU was criticized for only suspending its two players only a game or two for being given free shoes from Foot Locker. They were called Free Shoes University by Spurrier. Now we’re hereI’m staunch 2-A, and idiots like this ruin it for everyone (and lead to innocent lives being taken). He needs to be suspended until there is a review by both the school and legal direction.
We’re gonna wake Datt from his slumber if we’re not careful. Like a deer hunter baiting a fieldI’m staunch 2-A, and idiots like this ruin it for everyone (and lead to innocent lives being taken). He needs to be suspended until there is a review by both the school and legal direction.
Yes we would have lol. This is pretty friggin’ serious….I thought about last year also. Much different and much less tragic, but questionable judgment used (again, at a lower and somewhat more understandable level).
If this was a UNX player, we never would have heard about it at all.
Saying it doezn't look good is an understatement. He brought a loaded gun to someone who killed someone.
I was a narcotics, K9 and Juvenile officer for over 12 years .The fact of the matter is that, regardless of who was the owner of the gun, Miller did possess the gun for some period of time. I don't believe you need a license to own or possess a hand gun in Alabama.Pretty sure he didn’t have a license or gun permit to even temp possess a firearm. Duke Mu's hypothetical below is dead on with the facts as the prosecutors understood them. Under those facts, and given that in Alabama it is easy to get a gun, hard to see what crime he committed. And quite frankly when assessing whether someone merits staying in a program, it probably should not be based on a guess. Here, your guess is incorrect. Miller is over 18, which is the age at which someone can legally own a gun in that state and was not required to obtain a license. The fact of the matter is that, regardless of who was the owner of the gun, Miller did possess the gun for some period of time. My guess is that he was unlicensed and underage. Not the kind of kid you should want in your program. I probably wouldn't hang out with someone who would leave a loaded gun in my car. Was the player's friend's gun legally owned? I'm not a big fan of carrying guns around. I'd prefer guns were kept in homes for protection or hunting, but I try not to get political in here.Just a hypothetical Chris.
You and me go out in YOUR car. I decide to go to a club, you decide you rather not, and go somewhere else, maybe to get something to eat. I leave my legally owned gun in your car. At some point later in the night, you start driving back to pick me up. While you are driving, you get a text from me to bring your joint (gun). You are already driving, maybe you saw the text or maybe not.
You arrive where I am. I come to your car, go into your car and get my gun from under the clothes in the back where I put it. I leave you in the car.
I go shoot someone. YOU never touched the gun.
Thoughts on that scenario?
My understanding (again accuracy of information) was that the friends gun was legally owned. In that scenario as laid out, which is one of the stories thats out there, it may not be an easy decision to sit him. You could be sitting him for no other reason than how it looks. Not sure that is wise, as opposed to dealing with the known facts.I probably wouldn't hang out with someone who would leave a loaded gun in my car. Was the player's friend's gun legally owned? Or maybe with NIL it isn’t that easy . Have we ever thought that they sit him, he looses NIL money due to it or at worse kick him off the team with no legal charges and he decides to sue for damages ? How’s that look for their recruiting? Let’s not act like Miller didn’t have legal service the minute his name popped up especially with him being a high draft pick.I hear you, but someone was killed, so maybe sitting the person a few games doesn't sound so extreme.
