Tomorrow we finally get the first true reveal of the biggest X-Factor for the entire 2025-2026 athletic year for MSU.

What will we see from McPherson tomorrow afternoon?

Geez. So we play on Monday if we lose, even though there’s been no rain delays?

In the late 90’s and early 2000’s they used to do a 2-3-2 format. Have a three game Saturday, and then the final Sunday afternoon and the “if necessary” game on Sunday night. I don’t know when it changed to allow games on Monday but I know for a fact that was the format when we hosted in 2000 and 2003.

We’ve hosted 3-4 Regionals since then and it’s been a If necessary Monday those times.

I do sort of remember the Finals being on Sunday night back in the day?

They realized that format was ridiculously bad. Potentially 5 games in 48 hours. So they went back to 2-2-2-1 format.

Do you think they are going to make one team play three games in a day? Of course we will play on Monday if we lose
I may have been brain farting but I distinctly remember that exact thing happening in the past.

From comments below, it seems like that was a few years ago. Not since that 2018 Hattiesburg regional has it come into play for us, so I guess I haven’t paid that close of attention in awhile.

Teams have never played 3 games in a day in NCAA regionals. As others have said, they used to play what’s now the first Sunday elimination game on Saturday night. But that only meant doubleheaders. The winner of the early Saturday elimination game would play the loser of the Saturday winner’s bracket game. We did that in the 2003 Starkville Regional. We lost the winner’s bracket game vs UNC Saturday afternoon and then had to play Missouri that night. We almost won the first game Sunday to force a 2nd Sunday game but UNC rallied to win.

There was also a time when (in the same post season) some Regionals were 4 team while others were 6 team. No idea why. But I remember several years having to beat teams twice in one day to advance to Omaha. One was TAMU. I guess the other was Washington??

This is what I remember. There used to never be any Monday games unless it was due to weather delays.

I was at that first UNC game. They had a couple of guys that could mash.
