So, this past week Jason Adkins picked up win #100 for his career and #44 while at Mount Airy. This is quite an accomplishment but does his lack of signature wins and losses in the postseason tarnish the record? He has had some great teams so far at MA since 2018 and has failed to reach a Western Regional Final. I don't think he did at East Wilkes either.

Unfortunately he hasnt had better teams than East Surry's last 3 teams that made it. Plus Coach Lowman at ES is on another plateau coaching wise. Look at what he did with ES last year in 2a. Adkins is good. If he doesn't get there this year...it will be a disappointment.

If this is the only measure of a successful, please apply this same ruler to Coach Hollingsworth and David Diamont as well as every other high school coach.

And while we are at it, maybe we should apply it to every college coach, football and baseball and basketball.
Left Drezell comes to mine (Davidson, Maryland and Georgia State).

And what year did/has Adkins had a senior laden team with talent galore except the one that injuries took care of. Lowman is good no doubt about it, but I ask what other 1A team has anyone around here seen with 5, that is right five, D1 players?

Come on, guys, get off Adkins back. To say he is not doing a great job is just not fair, it is completely stupid.

2018 he had a better team. Last year he had best team in west 1A if not in state.

He is doing a great job but has not and will not win a big game. I'm sorry it's the truth. I'm not only one has seen this and said this. No disrespect but 2018 had seniors. Last year had best 1A team at least in west. Didn't get it done.

Ultimately the players have to walk onto the field and beat the opposing team. The best laid plans, preparation and practice often fall short when playoffs come around. The ultimate remembrance of a coach is the impact he had on the lives of the student athletes as a father figure, guide, mentor, leader, taxi cab driver, part time counselor, preacher, teacher, clothes washer, food and clothing provider and all the other facets that go unnoticed by parents and fans. Congrats on 100 wins to Coach, that is 100 more than many want to be coaches and Monday morning QB's.

Amen to Wow 71 !!!!!
With the teams and talent he has had, he could have done better. Unsportsmanlike penalties every game is what I recall and multiple times in the same game in some cases. That is a lack of discipline and that lies with the coach. In my opinion, if he has the player talent and in most cases he does, he will be known as the coach who can’t win the big game until he demonstrates he can. It is great he has that many wins, but championships ( not conference championships as the most recent conference teams are weak) or a chance at one is what most people remember.

I think he ia a good coach..but if you would've given Grissom (former Elkin Head Coach) the talent that MA has had.most recently...you would have not onky a few Western Regional Titles but a State Title maybe two...He did so much with so little...Imagine if he had a lot.

Your right Lowman at MA they would won it last year and at least played in two more tite games. Lowman is a great coach....that is the difference is winning in big momments and having your team prepared. Adkins is a very good coach and is goof for the kids but just cant win the big game.

Ain't that the truth. The man who breeds accountability. Who makes his kids tougher. Who prepares them for the real world. Because he gives real stuff to them. Real experiences. We are lucky to have that here. In Mount airy is lucky to have that there. I think that the guy who constantly bitches about the coach. Not winning the big game. He's wrong. He's a running joke among some of the players at that program. They know where he sits in the stands. And know that he's ridiculous. If you ask me for the last two years they've had quite a few big games. The rematch is against the East Wilkes and starmount. The East Surry game. The Mitchell game. A draughn team who was supposed to have the top right to sophomore quarterback and top ranked sophomore running back. Now they didn't win every one of them. But they played their *** off. In the two they lost were by a combined what seven or eight points. Anyway. Kudos to him. I'm partial to our guy in pilot mountain. However we don't have any fans like the buzz who claim to be fans. Believe me buzz you don't have all those great players without that guy working them in the weight room and on the track holding them accountable for the classroom etc. You are the soul minority there. People laugh at you in the stands. So maybe you should think about what you say.

The loudest are usually the minority. That's why they are loud.

Those same people also think they are the majority because they are surrounded by other loud people but fail to realize they only hear a small sample size of a bigger picture.

The things coaches teach reach way beyond the field or court. A few years ago my oldest had an interview with a Nascar team and he showed up 15 minutes early and during the interview he was asked why he was so early and he said that his high school football coach taught them that if they weren't 15 minutes early they were late. He got the job and was always there early every day. So, Coach Diamont helped him way after football was over. When its all said and done the type of young men that come out of any athletic program speaks volumes about the type of man/men running that program.

I love this. Everybody here at East Surry needs to remember that the field is named for him for a reason. I'm not sure you would have done what we have done with the talent we have now. But everyone must remember that he's the one that developed those kids. Have the seniors this year they've only known Coch low but The ones before that new Dave. I think it's horrible what happened to him. How he was back stabbed in railroaded. However I have gotten over it. I don't agree with a few of our alumni who did it. Especially since they are still involved in daddy ball. But whatever. The foundation that Dave laid. One of honesty one of hard work and one of accountability stuck with a lot of those kids.

I have bragged on the job he has done and have said he is good coach and does good job with the kids. Just said has not won a big game. As for laughing at me in the stands I pull for the kids and enjoy the game. Laugh if makes you feel better. Never claimed to be perfect and I do get carried away. I could just stop posting keep my mouth shut and have no opinion. Im ok with that. I love kids and student athletes. Coaches do have a very hard job with fans and parents. I will say it again Adkins and his staff are doing a great job with these young men. It does bother what you have said and definately opens my eyes to how much of an Idiot I can be at times. Just love MA FB. I was a Bear and always will be one. I guess time to act like a grown up. You have a good day Sir!

If I recall the conversation was being had before 2008 about Kelly. I remember having this conversation with Andy temoneys dad one afternoon at practice. The same conversation was being had about kelly after that Ablemarle loss. He turned out just fine. Lot of talent been through Mount Airy in the modern era to only have one state championship. It’s kinda like that East Surry baseball program. Lowman stands out to me in regards of getting his kids looked at for the next level. Lot of kids from our area that were next level talent that never had that coach working for them as hard as they were working for that coach on the field and in practice. Kelly was a great Coach , JK is no different. Can’t even mention that 2018 season , if I recall there were a ton of injuries leading into that east surry loss.. The west was weak as pond water that year. I do agree with the discipline aspect, that’s where I think there is a lot of room for improvement. I do think that we have lofty expectations and lose sight of what it really takes to win a state championship. When did a 12-1 / 10-2 season become so bad?

Buzz you've called for Adkins to be replaced with Kelly for 4 years now. You have just recently started to say he was a good coach and is good for the kids. But if Mount Airy manages to slip up somewhere down the line, you'll be right back calling for his job.

Would still like Kelly as coach. But just my opinion on him doing good job. It's amazing how everything said on here is freaking twisted. I give up.

There is no twisting Buzz. You've trashed the man for 4 years now.

You say that is just your opinion but you have acted like that is the opinion of a majority.

Yes has gotten those big games. Even if lost Saturday would still had won the big game. Very happy he did it. He has done such a good job this season. I have always just gave my opinion on a message board where opinions run a muck. Awesome job coach. The best part about Saturday was seeing those players pour water bucket on his head and see him smile and hug those kids. You could see they love him and him they. You could see through the season a change in him and how he interacted with those kids. Congrats hell of a job!
