Ace is off today so far
This is where we need to temper some of our expectations. Watched Harper last night and watching Ace today against HS players. Neither of them dominated. ACE missing a lot of shots but you can see the talent but our fan base will expect 25 each night from both of them.

IMG is playing at 5pm. Darius Acuff is the recruit I really want here for the 2025 class.

No one is expecting 25 a night from anyone, 15 is realistic for both.

The former Oak Hill VA guard that plays with Bailey (Jaye Nash) is very sturdy, rock solid guard who will be a very good 4 year college player.

Great comeback from McCearchern

OT it is.
Bailey having an off shooting night, but still has a double double with over 21 points and 12 reb in regulation.

He’s had a few games where he has had 40 and 20. He’s a sure fire top 5 pick. And I don’t think anyone is expecting 25 ppg. But he will have a few games next year that we simply haven’t seen.

Tell yeah what, Ace even on a off day has 20pt plus, rbs, assts, blocks, steals, dunks and all over the place, while being double teamed What really impresses is his movement and ability to get open and involve his teammates.

Also noticed he has a slight limp. Dylan had one yesterday as well. These kids have logged a ton of playing mins both domestically and internationally against high level competition the past couple of years.

No doubt in my mind Ace and Dylan are one and done players especially if RU makes a deep run into the NCAA.

The way I look at team next year there are only two open spots on the starting five to be filled by current roster players because it will be:

Harper
Bailey
Somerville

Kids currently on RU roster are in some ways auditioning this season on who will play with the incoming class or will be playing somewhere else.

I think it's wild how many games top recruits play now. You can say "they're young" or whatever but it's a lot of travel too. These top top recruits are basically pros already.

I’ll bite. Where are you getting this “precedent” from? Which former player came in with a great offensive game that Pike ruined? We have had very few really good offensive players under Pike, period. It’s not like Tez left and became a scoring machine. JY was a better offensive player at RU than anywhere else he played. Ron did just fine at Rutgers. And Geo came in and scored double digits as a underrated frosh. There is a difference between a top 5 recruit and a top 50 recruit. You can’t base anything on Jaden Jones and Gavin Griffith as you have no idea if they would’ve had good scoring seasons at another high majors as frosh. I’m guessing they would not.

Ace didn’t look like he was 100%. Also, Harvard-Westlake made the decision to double and triple team him and make somebody else beat them. I liked how Ace maintained his patience and was willing to play decoy. Good team player.

Pretty sure at least Geo, Ron, Paul, Myles, JY, and Eugene all improved their offense under Pike. There may be more. Jones and Griffiths (so far) had their minutes properly limited by their poor defense. Cliff is the only guy who has taken a step back offensively, but much of that is lack of dunks due to poor guard play.

Cliff was never a stand out offensive player who could score in a lot of different ways. We’ve never really had a kid where that was the scouting report.

No one is expecting 25 a night from anyone, let alone a freshman. Isaiah Collier/Cody Williams level production should be the high-end of expectations for both.

Also, posts like this make no sense after one "off" game. What was your reaction after Ace dropped 40 and 20 at the RAC? People love overreacting on both sides of the spectrum.

I love that 23 points and 14 rebounds against the 11th best high school team in the country while being double and triple teamed the entire game is an “off” game.

I hope so. We are just so offensively inept its hard not to have doubts plus Pike’s undying dedication to Defense. If this new group is going to relish next year and probably for one year, he’s going to have or be willing to change his ways and open things up for the team and mainly Bailey and Harper.

I also just dont get how Griffith has forgot how to shoot after he was arguably one of the best shooters in last years class. Something doesnt add up there. I know his defense lacks but he has done nothing to help open up his offense with screens etc
