First and foremost, all’s well that ends well. Great comeback to stick it to those chirpy, chippy, coonasses.

This weekend so far we have struggled at the plate and looked very average in the field especially on the left side of the infield. Got to make some of those plays.

Cerentola has good stuff but is still wild as a buck. Sims might need to be in the weekend rotation.

Hopefully we will blow out the cobwebs tomorrow. Would also love to see Bednar on the hill.

We are not quite ready for prime time yet but the season is young and hopefully we will Get it all together soon.

One other thing. We have got an absolutely lethal weapon behind the dish.

I’m not as familiar with the newer players, but if we move James back to 3B, who would play Shortstop? James just doesn’t seem to have “it” at short...

James will be fine at SS. Keep in mind that folks questioned Westburg’s move from 3B to SS too. Cameron James reminds me a lot of Westburg. Big body that is plenty athletic enough to play SS. But yes he doesn’t look like your typical SS. As a matter of fact, he’s actually taller than 6ft....

Westy wasn't a great defensive SS so I don't see it as a positive that you're comparing the two. We really need better defense up the middle, particularly with the pitching we have.

I wouldnt move Sims to starter yet. If consider possibly going with a Fitts/Girodo approach before that if Sims hasnt thrown. But I also would rather see Brandon Smith in that slot. sims can throw a lot and it would be great to get him in two games here and there

Derik Jeter, Cal Ripkin type shortstops are as rare as a Michael Jordon. It is not often to find a big athletic middle infielder that are highly effective on the defensive side as well as being highly productive at the plate. Over MSU history, our best defensive middle infielders have typically been short (5'-7" to 6'-0") players. The physical length of arms and legs of tall (>6') middle infielders create mechanical issues that sometimes makes fielding, and moving the ball from glove to hand and throwing accurately more of a challenge. The reality of tall middle infielders is that you typically trade some defensive efficiency with increased offensive productions. It is nice to have both, but again, Jeter and Ripkins are extremely rare.

Don’t know if I agree with calling a first round draft pick “not a great defensive SS”.

It’s starting to look like our preseason concerns about hitting were warranted. We’ve gotten a handful of guys on base throughout the weekend, but it seems to always be followed by strike outs, pop ups, or weak rollers to the infield. Tulane’s obviously not a terrible team, but if we cannot score runs against this pitching staff, we’re going to have major problems in SEC play.

We are far from a Too 10 team right now
