A decent human being who criticized Cohen

and said we should fire Moorhead regardless should now....
Keep 17ing quiet abt Cohen.

We should have fired Moorhead (I agree) but it was and always will be hard to hire a good head coach anywhere.

Its harder at MSU for a number of reasons.
Money, location, history, sec west, etc.

We have to take some BIGGER risks now. But let’s all shut the 17 up and act like adults without emotional problems.

My position all along was that firing Moorhead was fine, but ONLY if Cohen knew which direction he was going next. This could still turn out okay, but it was risky, and the stakes are getting higher.

Should have fired Mooerhead after the egg bowl. Now we are competing with the NFL for coaches. This is squarely on Cohen.

Firing Moorhead wasn't risky. We knew he wasn't the right coach. The next guy might be the right coach. If not, we'll move to the next one.

Exactly 100% on Cohen. Don't let anyone try to spin it differently. The exact problems existed before the Egg Bowl that ultimately got Moorhead fired over a month later. It's not like discipline and culture just suddenly fell apart out of the blue. You don't wait and compete with the NFL this time of year but really who in the hell thought Mississippi State would be in competition with the 17ing New York Giants?

What's actually happened here? It's still only been 96 hours. Can't fault Cohen over the Judge/Giants deal. All is well that ends well.

Correct. Post Egg Bowl was not the time. Post fight (and bowl game) it was obvious to all that the guy had no control over the program and that he was not the guy. At that point, you cannot give him another year. Nearly anything else would be preferable.

Hope you're right. We just don't know who the "real" candidates are at this point, so we have no choice but to wear maroon-colored glasses until we hear the final selection + staff.

Firing Moorhead wasn’t wrong. Not firing Moorhead after the Egg Bowl, and waiting until January to fire him is what we did wrong.

Cohen has f'd up plenty. But you just can not fault him on Judge. Now, if Napier pulled out because we weren't willing to invest heavily enough in support staff to give him the bare minimum that he knows he would need after being in Bama's operation, that is most definitely on Cohen. We just don't have many facts at this point. And maybe my head is buried in the sand, but I just don't buy that Napier is out or has ever been out unless this is what happened. He's a perfect fit for us.

If we end up with Grantham, my head is going to fall off though.

Agreed. But honestly, save for the one-point victory, that Egg Bowl showing was about as abysmal as most of his other games. the Genius never had an answer in the second half.

He never gave us an inkling of hope that things could improve in year 3. We had to move on.

Let's just hope we find a better one out there.... somewhere....out there...

I'm as big a Cohen critic as there is, and you're right, can't blame losing out on Judge on Cohen. Nobody could have seen that coming. Hell, it may be a blessing in disguise as he appears to be a high risk / high reward candidate. The key is, what does Cohen do now?

enough wrongs going around it's hard to know where to start.

- People believing rumors so now they blame Cohen when the rumors were never true.
- People started said rumors as if it doesn't matter. Social media is a powerful tool and if you don't believe that, time has left you behind.
- Firing a coach at the wrong time no matter if for or against.
- An AD allowing himself to be pushed around.

Enough blame to go around.

Well prepare to have your head fall off, because we are staring down the barrel of head coach Grantham. If Napier truly is off the board, I’d probably just try to get Calhoun at this point.

17 it, I had finally started buying into Judge too. What a damn gut punch. We are M-State.

I'm not convinced Napier is off the board. But I'd be more than OK with Grantham.

I think it actually benefitted us by waiting to fire him, even though it was accidental.

We got to keep our recruiting class and get them signed, and now we get to interview anyone we want because everyone's seasons are over and we're not scrambling to get someone before signing day (that wants to stay with their own team through postseason).

Most importantly, who got taken out of our "hiring pool" in November/December. Almost no one that we would've gotten has been hired by another school, our candidate list is the same now as it would've been then

Moorhead was a crappy coach on trajectory to be an even crappier coach. i guess operating off the assumption that Cohen knew what the 17 he was doing with hiring a coach was a bad idea. which i've had my questions about him as an AD, but i was giving him the shot since he saw the need to fire Moorhead. If he doesn't pull off a good hire this time. Then he is the problem and not the closer we want him to be. Here is to hoping he knows what he doing and pulls the rabbit out of the hat!

I disagree, only on the idea that we can afford to have a coaching carousel. If we do not give the next guy a solid opportunity, then the following coaching search will be even harder. Another year of Moorhead would be preferable to settling for the wrong replacement.

Me either. How much better job is he going to get than a mid-tier SEC job from ULL? The elite Blue Bloods don't regularly make their hires from Sun Belt coaches. Maybe he wants to check on Baylor but if he stays and has a worse year next year he may not have the same opportunity to go much of anywhere. If he doesn't want our job its because he is a coward to compete in the SEC West and if that's the case I don't want him anyway.

Should have fired him by early November. Then we're way ahead of the game. And i think most will agree when it comes to battling for coaches we need as many advantages as we can get.

I think keeping Moorhead was a bigger risk than firing him late in the process. He just wasn't the right guy and the proof of that was painfully abundant. Whoever Cohen hires can't do much worse, so it was worth the risk.

What coaches have been hired since the day after the egg bowl that 50% or more of the fan base would “agree” on?
