Trying to compare Coronavirus deaths to Flu deaths and drawing the conclusion that you should be more scared of the flu is like comparing people killed by nuclear weapons and conventional explosives during World War II and say that a conventional bomb will do more damage than a nuke.

Italy is the perfect storm. 20% of the population over 60, close contact due to city life and social customs, and a faltering health system based on government run medicine. Their are several articles if you want to look them up outlining the fact that if you catch this virus and are over 80, they are not giving you treatment. To all of those who want government run health care, this is a sobering reminder that under that system, you have zero say and the government decides who lives and dies.

They also have close ties to China and refused to restrict travel. I don’t think people realize how important it was that we cut off travel from China when we did. But of course that flies in the face of the “didn’t take it seriously” camp.

Just stop repeating **** that you don't know to be true. It's not hard to verify something before you post it as fact.

Yes. And he was wrong. It was fact checked. Travel bans were not as important as testing and representing to the public this was really serious. And thats where we failed.

Well it appears we restricted travel from all foreign nationals who had been in China during the outbreak. Did Italy do this? Because people could have simply flown into a border country and then traveled to Italy.

Italy is a one off because everything some mentioned here. Close proximity, lagged on restrictions that overwhelmed the healthcare stamps in rural northern Italy. Our death rate in America is about 1.3%. Be smart and live by facts and not fear.

and remember in Italy 99% of these deaths are over 80 with underlying conditions like people said. Smokers, COPD, heart disease.

No idea. But our first ban had pretty large exceptions so it wasnt even a complete ban. We can keep blowing Italy off all we want but the anecdotes coming from our hospitals are not great.

Once large scale testing is done it will fall below 1%. Sean Peyton had it with no symptoms. This seems to be a strange outlier that we are beginning to see asymptomatic cases.

this is ********. There are way more cases that are not being reported. People who have symptoms are being told to self quarantine and the only ones getting tested are people needing medical treatment. Quit spouting off ******** misinformation. People are having mild symptoms such as aches and pains, fever, coughing sneezing to more sever of throwing up blood, having chest pains and respiratory issues. This virus is not affecting everyone the same way. But believe me If everyone was tested we would be well over 50,000 infected. Almost 80% of cases are mild which means they aren’t getting tested. Most of us will get it and not even know.

What's that got to do with death rate? Having more people infected than we know is undeniably true. But what is also true is that the more testing is done, the more the actual death rate % is likely to fall.

Overall many more people will die as more are infected, and there have no doubt been deaths and will be more that may have been due to this virus that are also unknown. But common sense tells us that because there is a much higher rate of people who get it and show relatively mild symptoms, so never get seen or tested than there are those who get it and die, that strongly suggests the death rate would be lower if more people are actually tested, including those with mild-to-moderate symptoms.

This virus is an undeniably tragic and dangerous thing. There are plenty of good reasons to not dismiss it, and to follow CDC & WHO guidelines. But jumping on Bucky's *** over the death rate % isn't the argument to be made.

Dude do you even read my post??
You're making my point that even with confirmed cases and deaths we are at 1.3-1.5% which means many more have it and can’t be confirmed because of lack of testing. So in the end in America it’s probably most likely 1% or less!
