and UW has gotten a pass over Willingham "resigning," the bca seems to be cranking up (they had the guy on espn last night and john saunders never misses a chance to make an awkward segway into why there should be more black coaches) and they would be camped out in Starkville if he actually upset two teams (that should be comfortably favored).
it would be hard for me to honestly say that i would fire him if i were the AD. the problem is that those 7 losses would come to the tune of losses to LaTech, a terrible TN team, a beating by GaTech, a silly loss to a very down Auburn team, etc.
it is more the WAY the season has gone for croom than the final results of 5 and 7. it is more his erratic behavior and his inability to put even a mediocre offensive product on the field that truly bothers me. don't get me wrong. i hate losing just as much as the next person but sometimes you lose because the other team was simply better and other times you lose due to incompetence by staff. i would chalk up at least the latech, auburn, and kentucky losses to incompetence.

I'd have to say yes just because it's obvious that it's time for both of us to move on. Croom should have been brought in to simply make our program respectable and get us to the point where we can legitimately play with anyone in the SEC. I feel like he has done that, but he's not the guy that's going to take us to the next level. It's time to bring that guy in.

Of course, I would make a bad AD.
While 5-7 would be a small miracle at this point, the fact remains that Croom is going to continue making bad decisions and lose games he shouldnt. To be successful at MSU you must beat the LaTech, Tulane, and Houston's of the world.

...and in no way would I have faith that we have the right man for the job, but it's just a move you can't make. A 5-7 record probably gives you most of that recruiting class, plus, you are one game shy of bowl elgibility, one year removed from SEC COY. By all means do offensive coaches still need to go in that scenario, but you can't fire Croom.

$1.7 million. Year Five. A 5'9" walk-on JUCO QB. Godawful special teams. Ranked 100-something again in offense.

Most coaches in the SEC would be long gone by now. 4 out of 5 losing seasons. Crxxm has been given his chance. good riddance
given the incidents that occurred before the season that diminished my expectations for this year anyway and knowing that a finish like that would preserve our recruiting class. However, right now, I don't see anyway for this team to reach 5-7. Anybody that can see 2 wins in these last 3 are seeing something I can't. I would put the odds at 75% for being 3-9, about 20% for being 4-8 and maybe 5% or less at being 5-7 and that's probably being generous. Oh and probably .01% chance of 6-6 if it even matters. Arkansas will be our best chance to win one but not only will we be emotionally flat for that game, they have a week off before playing us.

I wouldn't pull the plug just yet if we were to end up 5-7. I see four scenarios.
1. 6-6 stare and wonder "how the hell did that happen". Go to the bowl game in Birmingham and not know what to think
2. 5-7 record gives croom at least one more year. This should stabilize the recruiting class and get in the position talent we need. However, this record should force you to replace McCorvey and allows for another year off Croom's contract.
3. 4-8 record gives croom another year, but he MUST find a new offensive and special teams coach. Another year will also soften the buyout

going to happen this year. Everyone on the offensive side of the ball should be fired (excluding Croom). Croom can hire a new offensive staff and never touch the offense again. All of that SHOULD have occurred last year.

I agree with that. Somebody has got to pay. The problem is, McCorvey should have paid for it LAST year. Crooms sealed his fate by standing pat. You can argue all you want about the fact that pick sixes are part of the game, but the fact is Crooms DID win with smoke and mirrors last year. 17 all this BCA ********. We have FIVE YEARS of statistics that say that Crooms has no goddam clue how to coach a football team and an impressive list of horrible losses to support that argument. I don't care if Crooms pulls one out of his *** and sweeps the next 3 games, beats Bama 55-0, and wins the bowl game his *** STILL NEEDS TO BE FIRED. Do your job Byrne!!!!!!!!!!!!

If your opinion of a good coach is someone who can teach the players to win games, then Croom is not the man. I say of course he should be fired. He should have been fired when was first exposed. When we had our uh oh moment. The moment that you realize that you have gotten yourself into a mess that will take many years to clean up.
He is a great speaker, seems to honestly care about the players and enjoy's the role of mentor.
If we care about winning championships in football. Unless Croom hired a Spurrier or any good coach for that matter, that goal can't be reached.
Mircales happen, but if we ever do have another winning season under Croom, it will have nothing to do with him. He simply doesn't know how to do it and doesn't appear to be "learning on the job".
All that being said, I really like him as a person and think that he is an excellent representative of our university. I would LOVE to see him in a professor type role.

Winning any of the remaining games just proves how inept he is especially when you look at the schedule we had and our 5 year track record on offense.
