I remember that well. I was in first grade. My most distinct memory was the sky being a green/black color. Ive never seen anything like that since.
Actually occurred on May 6th. I was in middle school. My dad’s shop was near
75th and F and had just left, turned north on 84th to go thru the tunnel and could see the debris in the air in his rear view mirror. Very fortunate it didn’t occur even an hour earlier with schools during dismissal time.

My father was an administrator at Bergan when it hit. They were having difficulty getting patients into the hallway when glass started breaking in the entryway.
My Dad was in the Air Force, we had been stationed at Offutt AFB from 68-74. We moved to England and we were stationed at Mildenhall RAF at the time of the tornado. We saw the news reports on TV in England. It was so surreal to see Omaha on TV while we are in England.
And it happened again when the blizzard of 75 hit Omaha. I remember thinking, hoping and praying that our friends back in Omaha were ok. It was scary!

We lived northeast of Daykin Ne the sun was shining at our house but you could see the storm clouds to the north east and we tuned into kfab and listen to live reports
My mom was just talking about this series of storms that produced an f4 near Magnet. They walked into town after the tornado to find tractors in trees. I'm not sure why the wiki page says pierce county as its actually in Cedar country but either way still sounded like a bad one.
We had to read “Night of the Twisters” in 1988 as a 4th grader. And then we watched a documentary on it. Scared the crap out of us kids and let me tell you we took tornado drills a lot more seriously after that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_of_the_Twisters
