We won't really have an idea of numbers until testing stabilizes in a couple of weeks. There are still a ton of sick people without access to tests.

Those tests would've been administered like Monday or Tuesday, right?

Not necessarily. I saw something over the weekend where a doctor said to expect dips in new cases because of the weekend. I don't know how it all works, but that's what I based my comment on.

I'm much more hopeful that it's a trend.

I am too. I'd be very pleasantly surprised if we are on a down hill trend this quickly though

Is this true in Mississippi? We are getting way more negative results than positive ones. I would assume that means we aren't limited by test availability anymore.

Unless we are doing something like foregoing testing people who have all the symptoms and just telling them to quarantine out of precaution, and saving tests for questionable cases.

Worldwide, we've had at least nine consecutive days (haven't seen Sunday's numbers) of increasing new confirmed cases, including five consecutive days of all-time highs of new confirmed cases.

It's because of the weekend. Tomorrow is the beginning of the next phase of this thing. They may even have to do a late afternoon update today.
Not to be all negative or anything!

Per MSDH website, 1392 test have been performed by MSDH only.

I would imagine this is the bulk of the tests performed in the state, but there have been (especially in recent days) more tests performed by other entities. The 249 confirmed cases are from all tests.

My understanding is that the positive case include positive cases from all sources, but the total tested just includes MSDH tests. And we are still hitting under 20% positive (maybe; could be the total number includes a good number of tests for which we are waiting on results). So that makes me think that tests being limited isn't a huge factor right now. Again, assuming we aren't doing something with triage where we are skipping testing for people that have the standard symptoms and focusing on questionable cases

Or we still haven't reached the peak of the bell curve. Saturday's all-time high of 32.6k new confirmed cases was topped Sunday with 41.5k new confirmed cases. That's ten consecutive days with increasing new confirmed cases and six consecutive days with new all-time highs.

Well I found out today, some test that were done last Tuesday and Wednesday were sent to Labcorp in North Carolina instead of Labcorp in Flowood due to excessive test coming in and the ones sent to NC haven’t even got results back 6 days later.

This was from a statement released by north ms medical in tupelo. They’ve had 17 positives out of 197 results they’ve gotten back.

COVID-19 testing capabilities provided by the State of Mississippi have been available for a week now in northeast Mississippi. Capabilities provided by the state include “testing kits” for local providers to use in collecting and transporting specimens, which are then sent to the state lab or an outside lab for processing. The state or outside lab sends the results of each test to the site that collected the specimen or to the provider, as directed by the order. The total time from collection of the specimen to receipt of the results by the provider could be four days or more. Mississippi’s state lab has prioritized processing of tests for these individuals as follows:
1. Hospitalized patients
2. Exposed healthcare workers
3. Non-hospitalized patients

North Mississippi Health Services’ experience during the first week of testing is:
• 338 total collections sent to the State of Mississippi
• 141 of 338 are still pending results
• 17 tests were positive; 7 of those 17 positives are patients hospitalized within our healthcare system and 10 are quarantined at home

I wish all these had total positives/number of test administered. Is the number of cases rising while testing remains steady or are cases rising as testing is rising?

If I had to guess, I would think it’s a combination of both. As more of the world starts to fight (because cases rise and spread), more tests will be administered as well.
