So, NU has lost 34 one-score games in the last 9 years, or 10 more than any other team in the country.

In 2023, NU lost 5 one-score games.
In 2024, NU lost 4 one-score games not including an 8 pt loss to USC.

So 9 of the one-score losses among the 13 Rhule team losses over the two year period.

Will they "improve" to only 3 one-score losses in 2025 and reverse a 9 year trend?

Is that bad?

Kinda explains why we’ve spent most of the last 9 falls wanting to punch something. Just an inexplicable level of consistency when it comes to losing close games.

You lose close games for multiple reasons. Turnovers, penalties, special teams, bad coaching decisions etc..,
But also, the inability of the defense to get a stop late in a game when it really matters is huge. Last year against Iowa is a prime example. Yes, we turned it over late and opened the door. But at that point Iowa was not in FG range. Our defense had shut them down the entire game save for one big play. But what did they do at the end? They allowed a good chunk run that put Iowa in business.
We will not return to winning unless we fix all of the things that cause losses in close games. I am not trying to blame the defense alone since last year’s defense was good. But they did let us down late in games. Ohio State is another example. We had them on the ropes late. Our defense, which had been good the whole game, suddenly allowed them to drive the length of the field and score.
This is why my main worry for this year is the defense. I think our offense will be better. But I think our defense will be worse.

One player missed a tackle, just shows we still have too many players not playing team ball, we needed the defensive to step up some one to make a play and the problem was each player figured someone else would do it. Hey at least in the bowl game and we needed a first down to ice the game ty decided he’s going to clear the way for Emmett to make the first down. We need more players like Ty that have that mindset until we have the whole team with that sadly we’ll struggle
