Anyone out there? Here at the RAC we're enjoying the Kahlea and Tyler show , not to mention the knight doing Irish dancing.

Couldn't make it to the RAC today. :-( Following on gametracker since game is only on BTN Plus. I guess the games aren't on RVision any more. (I assume that this was discussed before, but I missed it.)

gametracker is confusing - it can't decide whether it's the 3rd quarter or the 4th quarter. Looks like we're up 58-34, Tyler with 22 and Kahleah with 18.

Glad to see a win, expect many more.
Team has faults, but nothing that can't be overcome and games like this show it.

FWIW, I heard on WCTC on the way home that the Hogs' top 2 scorers didn't make the trip due to some team infraction. They only suited 8, of which 5 were freshmen. Don't know if that's accurate or not, just what I recall hearing. That being said, a W is a W, but it may be hard to assess the quality of our opponent today.

We created many buckets off of our defense, which is always great to see. As mentioned in another thread, AB looks noticeably out of shape, but despite that, I thought she played a solid game. Scaife and Copper did what we rely on them to do, and I truly enjoy watching them play. Our freshmen bigs saw action, and Sanders will be our true PG of the future. We should improve as the season goes.

Anyone know the status of the younger Jeune?

Final score, RU 60-39. Nice to see that we finished with 5 young-uns on the court.
This will come out when BeK or someone summarizes, but the final score was 60 to 40 since the refs called a foul with 0.4 left on the clock and the Ark made a free throw. At least the scoreboard and WCTC said so at the end.
The last few minutes were chaotic but Coach was trying to get certain combinations and others to work.
Ashli Jeune got a shot off when it seems like RU should have held/used clock for the win. Alex was going to shoot but had to scramble for the ball and ended up fouling the Ark player.
Victoria (I think) accidentally ran into a player on Ark end, knocking the Ark player down as the ball headed to RU's end, with no foul called and Jimmy Dyke went ballistic getting a tech foul (which Tyler made).
I had hoped that Ark would not make 40 but the free throw line enabled them to do so.
They had several plays set up for Cynthia to try 3 pointers to hit but she missed most of those shots or she didn't get the ball in time.
As was mentioned earlier, it was great to see the Rutgers Irish dancing club with the Knight joining in at halftime. Must be tough to do that type of dancing in that costume.

So, the team is still a work in progress and it was nice to have a relatively easy win, even if Ark is not a very good team (they had about 6 offensive rebounds on a single possession and came up with no score and no free throws).
So let us see how it goes against Iona.
GO RU! Beat the Gaels.

I think Ark played 9 players and I know that they had 9 on the court during warmups. I don't know if the box score is accurate. I do know that senior Wolff (#33) and soph/CC transfer Cosper (#21) did some significant playing, so the game was not against just a bunch of frosh, although I can believe that if they left some players home, it could hurt the team. I know that they had more than one frosh starting from what I remember during the intros.

Another point to note, unrelated to Ark, before the game, new AD Hobbs presented Stringer a photo/ plaque congratulating her on being the winningest RU women's basketball coach (435 wins). What was good is that they had a video that I hope RVision will have later with congratulations from various players like Cappie, Katie, Piph, Heather and also Coach Grentz who was very gracious in her remarks. I can't remember who all talked except the video started with Myia wearing her Ohio State logo, which is why I hope it is on line someplace.
Stringer seemed quite touched watching the big TV monitor with Hobbs.
Also, Tyler was presented a ball commemorating her 1000 point scores (which happened last year?)

To me, the Knight was annoying and disrespectful to the performers by overstaying his welcome(?). Plus, one of the dancers could have been at risk as he appeared to be getting close to the moving performers.

I liked the dancers, though.

I thought the Knight was part of the rehearsed program/performance and I agree that he got a little close to being a hazard which I think is related to limited vision in that big Knight head. If he wasn't part of the plan, then he was out there too long but it seemed preplanned.
Since I did not know that there was a Rutgers club for Irish dancing (and remembering previous appearances of the big group from that dance studio), I thought it was great to see.

With the game clock winding down Ashley caught a pass for a wide open, probably undefended three attempt. Stringer was yelling "don't shoot." I was glad she took the shot, because I noticed the previous one or two possessions she was WIDE open and Kahleah ignored her and took a shot of her own. Whatever happened to trying to set up shot attempts for the seldom-used players when the game is out of reach? I always remember the crowd yelling "shoot, Katy, shoot it!!"

While I liked the outcome of the game score I was a little disappointed to hear that the Razorbacks top two players didn't make the trip. We missed way too many defensive rebounds in the second half (and Arkansas missed hundreds of consecutive put backs.) Our offensive ball movement was lacking and we had to mainly rely on Tyler and Kahleah and their hot hands. Again, we started the game extremely poor in the scoring column (but Arkansas poor shooting kept things painfully close.....to our good)

I thought Rachel had a very good game. Low fouls and turnovers, good passing, good rebounding. She played in control and was focused. I think Cynthia played well in parts of the game that did not require her long range shooting. It's difficult to analyze things by this game because we don't know what kind of team we played.

It's nice to record a home win...let's get a few more.

Arkansas is not a good basketball team. They are in a rebuilding year, I think I read, having gone to the NCAA's last season.

They have lost to South Dakota State and Oregon State, neither of which is necessarily shameful, but they also lost to La. Lafayette, Missouri State and Tulsa, and I'm pretty sure at least 2 of them aren't very good, if not all three.

I want to add that I posted the information on Arkansas because folks were "speculating" when the facts were available.

You can only play the competition in front of you. As to Iona, they just won their first 2 MAAC games against Fairfield and Rider, their only other victory was against the school we called "Fairly Ridiculous" in the day, probably because we couldn't spell the real name. That said, none of their losses are bad for a team in the MAAC, and yes, we should expect to win the game going away.

I thought Briyona Canty had her best game of the year. Only 2 points but 7 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and only 1 turnover. That's the type of play we need from our point guard.

I will agree that early in the game everyone was passing up decent shot opportunities and we should have gotten off to a better start. But once Kahleah and Tyler got going the game was never in doubt.

CVS got all the freshmen a good amount of playing time. Several times KK Sanders made bad decisions and I expected to see the famous CVS hook but she let her play through the mistakes.

Good game with only 11 turnovers. KK and AB had 3 each meaning the rest of the team took great care of the ball.

Somewhat OT, but having grown up but a few miles from FDU, we did know how to correctly spell the name, but considered "Fairleigh Ridiculous" to be more appropriate. ;-) At the time, it was considered a "safety school", but they have since found a solie niche with international students. That said, their wbball team has been terrible for years. (Out of curiosity, I went to their web site and found out that their last winning season was 1992-93. And their coach in the late 80's was one Ferne Labati. Who knew?) We went to a game at FDU some years ago while Usha Gilmore was an assistant coach for the opposing team (Wagner). They play in a glorified high school gym that makes Seton Hall's gym look luxurious, and attendance was < 100, including the players and coaches.

Ferne was one of the most entertaining opposing coaches to watch back in the original BE days.

What Turtle said.

I track all the P5 teams and RU / AZ opponents. Not scores, just wins and losses. Gives me a bit of feel for the teams.

As I also said in the next post after the one you didn't like, you can only play the teams that are on the court with you. You can't make your opponents better or worse than they are. Arkansas went to the NCAA last year and should have been a better team, but as I stated, in the SEC preview I read it said they are rebuilding. Can't change that.
