That's how much time was left in the game when I left. We were down low double-digits. In other words, there was still a slight chance for a W. It was probably the earliest I've ever left a game by three minutes, dating back to my freshman year of 1970.

But I was bored and indifferent even to the possibility of a shocking comeback.

We were unskilled and incredibly poorly coached. Add to that the abysmal basketball IQ of EO, DG, BJ. One play early on, not sure but I think it was Kaden, got deep into to lane and DGs man came to help. If you're any sort of bball player, you put your hands up to receive pass for easy laayup. But no--DG had no anticipation that HE was now the play, The ball bounced his face and hands, went out of bounds, and instead of an Assist, our guard picked up a TO.

36 mins and 3 seconds was more than enough.

Regarding going to RU b-ball games:

Why even waste your time in the first place?

I support RU when the product isn't hopeless. They need to earn my money and fandom. Sports shouldn't be punishment or a chore.
I do tend to agree especially in this new age of college sports. I still have pride with the name on the from of the jerseys but the whole system makes it so hard
You barely know players anymore over time and call them a RU alum (even if they leave early for pros). That why I like duff and Raymond staying in football

The new NIL world is a killer for college sports (and rooting for your alma mater). I grew up going to Hinson/Battle games with my dad. I loved watching players grow and develop year to year. You get that more in the pros now. Very sad.

You're where I was sometimes in January.

I realized I was just sitting there bored, not particularly caring if we won or not. Not particularly hating the other team (because I have no idea who any of them are). I can't even get excited about the freshmen developing because any of them that are worth a damn will be in the portal as soon as the season ends.

Haven't been since Indiana. As down as I am on Pike I think I'm more down on the state of the sport in general.

It’s actually a killer to sports programs that are mismanaged and clueless like we have been. While the wild Wild West with NIL is ridiculous, the top programs still seem to be enjoying themselves.

You stayed the whole game through all the 40+ point loses with EJ?

The histrionics is pretty funny. Apparently he sat through every game in the Littlepage era with 2 or 3 conference win seasons in the A10, the Fred Hill era with 2-3 win seasons in the Big East, the blowout after blowout in the EJ era.........and now he's finally had it?

Rutgers has been mostly bad for 4 decades through 8 University Presidents, 8 or 9 Athletic Directors and probably near the same amount of Head Coaches. . Has little to do with NIL. One day RU Fans will wake up and realize that programs are built foundationally on sustained Alumni/Fan/Benefactor financial support as well as political support...... and not on any single University nor Athletic administrator. People will of course donate more with winning......but dropping out when the team is at a low point will not serve to help the program in any way. Our new president and AD have been in place for ~8 months. Not sure you can say that they are clueless yet.

You're probably, right. I bet there were long forgotten games that I did leave early. (Hm, still can't remember them.) And I'm sure that, since I haven't lived locally my entire life, I've certainly not been at anywhere near all home games. It was wise of you to point out these "histrionics." I can only pray to the good Lord Jesus that this did not muddle my point about how disheartened I was by the game. It's people like you--I mean really smart and witty people--who make the board worth coming to!

Apologies. All the whining and complaining tends to trigger me as I get enough of it from my Millenial/Gen Z kids. Thought I could come here and be sheltered from all that noise while surrounded by boomers and genX......but unfortunately to no avail as its apparently become an epidemic.

Don't really know what you're saying nor whether "apologies" are sincere or sarcastic. It won't be easy, Lord knows, but I'll have to live with it.

Your original post was a bit dramatic. Acting like this is the worst Rutgers has been is a little laughable. Rutgers basketball and sports in general have been bad for decades.

Okay, so you felt the need to comment because my post "was a bit dramatic" and to call me out, doubting I'd sat through EJ's 40 point losses. In other words, I was over the top. Are you suggesting that over the top statemrnts are so rare that you must correct them? You'd be busy.
3:57 is the earliest I ever remember leaving a game, but I probably have left earlier. But if those occurred, they were not in still winnable games. I think we were down 13 pts with 4 mins left. Again, a long shot but far from game over. With four mins left, though, I had been so taken out of the game by bad coaching, bad play, awful IQ that I had no interest in staying even with the possibility of an exciting comeback. Leaving a game in which you're down forty with eight minutes left is one thing. Leaving a winnable game with 3:57 left, is not about giving up; it's about not caring. I didn't say this is the worst team we've ever fielded. But it's gotten to the point where I'll walk out because I don't care.

There is definitely a sense in which you're right. But I didn't think mine was a Student Comment on a Grad School "Peer Grading" assignment. I thought it was a cranky sports board post where blowing off steam even at the cost of being hyperbolic was fine and common.
