Pretty sure if Helene hadn’t happened, Ryan wouldn’t have brought his boy home to play QB and y’all wouldn’t be getting rings this year. Just my opinion. He was basically your whole offense.
OK.. So, 2 and 1 and 3 and 24 and 11 and 16 and so forth had nothing to do with anything. It was just the QB all by himself. Plus Eli never played defense the one that held EL and SP and Hickory in check.
You're opinion is your opinion. I'm PRETTY sure Ryan Hamrick and Eli both would tell you that he had weapons galore. He wouldn't have won anything at ACR this year.
Plus our JV team was awesome and I know some things that you DO NOT.

Why discredit the team , this Crest team was more than on player . Ely is a tremendous qb , the pieces around him and the defense was special.
I am sure if Crest wins it in 26 you will have another grand opinion on why they won

It's amazing. You get on this board and read some saying Ely was overrated when the season started. Now he's the only reason Crest was able to win. How about at least a little consistency. Well, one thing is certain...Crest is the first 5A state champ in NC. Can't wait till January.
Whether Crest wins it in ‘26 or not. Idk. I’m sure there are going to be other really good 5A teams. But Crest has reloaded with athletes every year since at least the early 90s. Plus they always get a couple transfers that contribute and based on some other posts they are getting back a former championship winning coach. They may not win it next year. But they will be there at the end and have a chance.
Never discredited the team. Even said you would have had a very good team without Hamrick. You don’t win state without him though. He’s your starting QB, leading rusher, and is going D1. He was a HUGE part of the equation.
The whole context is who contends in 2026. Quit acting like he’s easily replaceable.
Crest won every playoff game by at least 2 tds. Who beats them without Hamrick?

I don’t think you guys are acknowledging just how much Hamrick meant to your team (again, still a good team without him) but he was quite literally dominant.
Looking at the 3 best 5a teams in the West (and arguably the state), Hamrick represented a significantly larger part of the offense than the SP or Hickory QB’s.
Hamrick accounted for 64% of your total yards and 56% of your TD’s (offensive)
SP’s QB accounted for 29% and 34% respectively.
Hickory’s QB accounted for 53% and 35%

No one is saying his production will not be missed , great player. Crest will be really good , you ever thought that Crest may win next year different ways ? Crest may not ask the qb position have that production Ely had this season.

Credit to Hamrick on improving from overrated to one man team during course of the year.
They don’t beat SP at SP in the playoffs without Hamrick. There…I said it.
Hamrick was good in that game but Pluto had 3 ints in that game and Mike Mike got us rolling..far from a 1 man band as you say

Surprising to see Southern Nash rb hit the portal today. Hunt and NS should be a rematch in next years eastern title game. Teams like Havlock and St.Paul’s will be decent. My surprise team might be South Brunswick
Any more guys in here talk about the eastern part of the state in 5A hit me up. Just a former player that moved down here in the mid 200’s my son just graduated and still try and catch a few games when I can.

st.Paul’s returns 4 all conference offensive lineman and 4 all conference defensive lineman plus a few other pieces. Won’t be as down as people think. Spoke with Coach Setzer once a few year back good dude
Maybe so. It would take more than one guy to beat them I'm sure. Hamrick is a good player...definitely an addition that helped propel them over the top (amongst many).
Setzer is a good guy. One of those defensive linemen has offers from everyone. Likely will end up at South Carolina I’ve been told
