To put things in perspective in Class D, at Lindsay HF, Spalding Acadamy, and Hayes Center, McPherson County, etc there are essentially 3-5 kids per class at these schools. That means that there are probably only 2-8 kids per classroom at any given time. Think about that. Crazy

Some of these school have no one to consolidate with, unless you want to transport kids 45 miles or more, Nebraska has a few areas that will always have very very small schools

Agreed in the Sandhills, southwest Nebraska and panhandle. But there are PLENTY of school districts east of Kearney that should consolidate. There doesn’t need to be grades of less than 10 kids. That is crazy and not a good use of resources. Nebraska needs more county high schools.

McPherson County, is a county school, I agree they should be more county school, but even with that you will still have several that are less than 10 kids a class, even if they are a county school

It’ll never happen until the archdiocese steps in, but LHF needs to consolidate with Humphrey St. Francis. In 10 years if they were consolidated they still would be Class D2 more than likely.

Hayes Center should consolidate with Wallace or Wa-Pa.

I agree in the Sandhills it’s unavoidable. Stapleton is really their only logical option.

Hayes Center should have went with Palisade years ago. It's my understanding that when Palisade was looking to consolidate Hayes Center was their first choice. Hayes Center didn't want them so Palisade went with Wauneta.

I do agree that Hayes Center and Wauneta-Palisade would make since to be together even now. They could build a new school in or around Palisade and then the kids from Hayes Center wouldn't have to travel as far for school.

As far as schools like Arthur County, Hyannis McPherson County are concerned, they really don't have any options.

Private schools won't consolidate as long as they keep getting the donations to stay open.

I think that decision is up to the tax payers. I'm pretty sure if you asked the people in McPherson County to vote on whether they want to fight to keep their school open or shut the doors and let your town dry up and blow away they would choose the school. If you haven't been to Tryon its at minimum 30 minute drive to another town. That doesn't take into account the kids that travel 30-60 minutes to get to school already. Just look at the area covered by the Sandhills Valley sports Co-op already. I for one wouldn't want to put my kindergarten child on bus 3 hours a day if I could help it. McPherson County does get some option kids and actually runs a bus to North Platte each day. If I had to give a guess I would say this is helping them keep the doors open at the school.

Totally agree. McPherson county and pretty much everybody north of North Platte have to have their stand alone schools.

Were the initial plans to move everything to Hayes Center? I think it’s crazy they co-op with Maywood.
