This position is where I believe we could run into issues. We have 3 players returning which is good, but who is going to replace the two openings? With Bland up in the air, this is a big deal IMO

Who do you believe takes over for the two open slots on the OL?

We know this... Jaimes, M. Farniok and Wilson will start. Will Matt Farniok move inside next year?

I'm going with...

LT - Jaimes
LG - Wilson
C - Broc Bando
RG - M. Farniok
RT - Bryce Benhart

I seriously have no idea who steps in! Who does everyone think steps into the starting roles?

Bland and Chunky Raridon. No Bland = Miller/lil Farniok and Chunky Raridon.

I think Raridon and Hixon are most likely inside, if Bland doesn't make it. Benhart could be a factor too, if he takes over at RT, Farniok can slide inside to OG, letting the others battle for the Center spot.

Hey I think Benhart will be good but I don't think he'll be ready for prime time his freshman year. Just me

Is Sichterman?
Is Bando?
Is Raridon?
Is Hunter Miller?
Is Will Farniok?
Is Cameron Jurgens?
Is Trent Hixson?

The only argument would be that Gaylord has some experience, but with all the names I listed above, none of them scream out "Safe Bet"

I just didn't get areal good feeling about him in the AA game. Since it basically was a 7 on 7 game with guards and tackles, I didn't see enough of his run blocking skills to see much except for a couple of plays.

He had some good moments and bad like most players did. He got burned bad a couple of times. Actually thought the o lines should have had more of an advantage than they did with the rules restrictions. The west QBs were under duress alot

I don't think he redshirts, but I don't think he starts game 1 either. He has ability and will eventually start a lot of games at Nebraska. Some of those may come this year, again not just game 1.

Would say that barring injury, Jaimes and big Farniok have the tackle spots locked down. Lots of talk here about moving Farniok inside to guard, but any mention of that from the Austin or Frost?
The rule of thumb is the best five start. With Bland, one would think him, Jaimes, M Farniok, Wilson, and Hixson/Raridon. Sans Bland, then Hixson and Raridon at Center and OG, respectively, with Benhart as next man up.

Cam seems like a stretch for game 1 to me.
I would say a pretty big stretch. We all love his athletic upside, but he has to: gain 30+ pounds, learn a new position and recover from an injury.

I heard Jurgens will play Center and Guard at the same time. Him filling both positions will allow for a fullback or second QB.

So there has been no talk of Farniok moving inside from the coaches, but the "rule of thumb" lists you provide, has not been heard from the coaches either.

So, in my opinion, they are on equal footing.

We have no prototypical OG bodies in this class unless Ethan Piper is going to play Guard. It seems like all the OL guys we recruited are 6'7 or taller. Not saying someone who is 6'7 couldn't play OG, but you don't typically see guys 6'7 at that position. I think it may have something to do with the height obstructing the passing lane, but that is just an opinion I have.

I really liked seeing Bland on the commit list, because he fills an immediate need. Not being something written in stone, but I think OG's should be 6'5 or shorter. I don't know why I think that, but somewhere along the line I got that jammed into my head that is how it is.

I think all of those guys play this year. The question is how much and when. I'll be very surprised if Gaylord and Raridon aren't on the 2 deep. Will Farniok I think is a year away.

Those are my best 5 picks. Don’t know if the coaches have explicitly said best 5 play, but have alluded to such an approach.
Edit - if a tackle develops so that Farniok could move inside, I think he would be the guy to move. Consistent with best 5 play.

Raridon needs some time with Zach Duvall and less time at Burger King. Not sure how he got out of the workouts last year but he needs to get in shape.

Maybe????

This could be a great fit for us. Shoot, even if Bland still comes, I wouldnt mind adding this guy.

The IWCC walk-on Joshua Wegener is the other guy in the mix. Do we know if he’s here for spring ball?

Based off comments last fall I’d say Hunter Miller may have best shot at taking Center job if Bland is out.

If Will Farniok has an amazing 11 months of S&C since last I saw him, you can throw him in there I guess.

AJ Forbes is a legit walkon prospect to watch for cracking the two deep.

Hunter Miller or Will Farniok at C if Bland doesn't make it. Cam Jurgens will take over eventually.
I think there's almost zero chance Bland starts at center. Even if we do sign him, he'll be a coming in cold for a few weeks of preseason practice. And in that time, he will be a juco kid learning an entirely new system, a new position, and center nonetheless. Besides, I cannot remember a juco coming in and starting immediately in the fall. Maybe Yoshi at tackle?

The other thing with Bland is that his CC shut down football. So who’s he going to be working out with?

Only about things we debate. But other times also.
Therein lies your problem. This not a debate. This is a message board full of opinions and rumors most of which are not supportable by hard evidence or references. Other than the returning starters on the O line nobody has any possible evidence to support any claims about who the other starters will be this fall. Its a friendly discussion based purely on speculation and should be taken as such.

those 2 and Hunter Miller will be in the mix. When Farmer moved to center Hixson was already in the 2 deep behind Wilson (who was the best OG on the team last year). In the limited time I saw him play, he looked very good for a young player.

I think they are taking flyers on the long lean tackles because those are the hardest guys to recruit and develop. The interior guys are guys that they feel they can either get by moving people or through local recruits and walk-ons. I actually feel pretty good about our interior guys next year. We'll have a nice step up in Foster's replacement, and while we need a replacement for Farmer, we have guys who are more mature and have more time in the system to step in.

LT: Jaimes, Gaylord, ??
LG: Wilson (agree and I like him a bit more on the left side), Raridon, Shefke?
C: Raridon/Miller/Wegener/Jurgens (if he's big enough and healthy he could win the job)
RG: Bland (if he gets here) / Hixson / Forbes, Farniok
RT: Farniok/Benhart

Lots of competition this year -- this isn't like last Spring where we had Miller having to step in because we had pretty much nobody else at center.

- I think Farniok will start at RT, but Benhart works his way in during the season (I don't think we have depth to move Farniok inside, and I don't like his foot speed at OG, unless Duval does a great job with him in the offseason, I see him at RT)
- Jaimes locks down the LT spot again, Gaylord's solid at backup, but not sure who else
- Wilson starts at one of the OG spots
- Bland probably starts at an OG spot if he shows up, but I don't think we try to play a guy who isn't here over the winter at Center. He'll get a strong challenge from Hixson IMO who can be a guy who plays like Wilson, IMO (which is to say a very good OG)
- Center is a good guess - I'm listing all 4 of those guys and any of them could win it. Raridon has talent and maybe they give him a shot here. He looked good, but was way overweight last year. Miller's a guy I like quite a bit, Wegener's made it a point to come here so he's interesting to see this spring, Jurgens is apparently the future, but it takes time to put on functional size/strength

Even without Bland (no inside info, but suspect he won't be here), I am excited about this line. More time playing together in the system is huge, as is more time with Duval/Ellis

While I wanna look forward and not backward, it is relevant to point out (again) how much better the OL got throughout the season with a proper OL coach running things... compared to prior years where we somehow witnessed players regressing year to year under Cav (so insane).
So whatever bodies we got, I feel comfortable saying that between Duval/Austin, we will be maximizing their talent. Since most guys already know the system the development will be accelerated now.
