I have not been to this tournament in about 6 years...Are there some wrestlers worth the trip?

I'll throw out some that have a solid chance to wrestle at the D1 level.
6A-Zane Coleman, Choctaw, Jr 170 - top recruit next year
Zach Marcheselli, Broken Arrow, Jr 220 - another top recruit-picked up several D1 FB offers lately
Colt Newton, Choctaw, Jr 126 - should be recruited to some degree by both state schools
Carter Young, Sand Springs, Fr 106 - probably one of the 10 best freshman in the country
Tate Picklo, Mustang, Fr 145 - another stud in the freshman class
Cade Manion, Deer Creek Fr 126 - same as above

5A-Talon Borrer, Coweta, Jr 170 - coming on strong lately
Caleb Tanner, Collinsville, So 126 - only two career losses so far
Tagen Jamison, Durant Fr 126 - only loss is to Tanner
Josh Taylor, Skiatook, Fr 120 - best of several good Fr at Skiatook

4A-Dustin Plott, Tuttle So 160 - top 10 recruit nationally
Luke Surber, Tuttle So 138 - should be a 4xer

3A-Colton Denney, Heritage Hall Sr 170 - one of the better unsigned seniors
Konner Doucet, Commanche So 195 - rare freshman champ at 195 last year. On pace to 4xer

Surber was beaten by Butler from Elgin and will have a hard time beating him at State as well. Their first match was a war

Looks like they are bumping back the start time an hour due to inclement weather. The wrestle-in round starts at 10:30am. Weigh-in's at 8:30am.

I saw Young, Plott, Surber, Coleman,Picklo, Marcheselli, Newton, Jameson, Tanner, Borrer. Taylor and Doucet are in the finals. Surber is wrestling senior undefeated Elgin in the finals as mentioned above.

I was unaware of Bulter from Elgin until osudog pointed him out. If his track wrestling profile is right, he only has 5 losses over his career. Lost twice as a freshman in Colorado where he was runner-up at 126. Won championships in Oklahoma the next two years losing only three times in those two years. Undefeated this year.

Up in Kansas, Jalin Harper is in the finals. He faces a good Tristan Wills of Derby. He beat Wills in the regional final 8-2

Kyle Haas suffered his first loss of his year and HS career in the semifinals at 182.

Both Surber and Butler won by tech fall in the semis. This rematch has got to be the match of the tournament. Tuttle placed 10 wrestlers in the finals. One humorous note, at least to me was that we had the battle of the "STATES" IN 5A in the 285 semis when MONTANA Phillips derc. DAKOTA McCaleb.
Closest team race is in 6A where Choctaw leads Broken Arrow 109 to 91.5 but they meet each other 4 times in the finals. Jaryn Curry Choctaw vs. Caleb Wise BA; Zane Coleman Choctaw vs. Bryce Mattioda BA; Colt Newton Choctaw vs. Reece Witcraft BA and Easton Rendleman Choctaw vs. Gavin Potter BA. Studd Morris Yukon vs. Freshman Carter Young Sand Springs should also be a good match to watch. Studd Morris has got to be one of the all time great wrestling names.

Butler is very young for his grade also. He is hoping for a walk on chance at OSU I can tell you that much for sure. He is only going to get better and he is a 4.0 student. He has some Mid level offers but he really wants a shot at OSU .

Harper lost in the state finals 6 to 4 in Kansas. Not a very good result.

Jalin Harper lost his finals match in KS. Actually it's a nice little comeback story for his opponent Wills. He had a serious medical condition a couple of years back and they thought he'd never wrestle again.

The freshman Picklo got beat 16 to 3 in the finals.

After AJ won cadets last year he mentioned surgery weeks before this event and his coached said he was ready and the he indicated John Smith had also talked to him about wrestling at Fargo.

Witcraft BA pinned Newton of Choctaw early in the 2nd for his 1st state title (Witcraft Coweta boy)

I don’t remember the score at the time of the fall, but Witcraft seemed to be on the way to the win. Newton is now a three time runner up with one more chance to get the title.

At least one other that I slighted on my list was Cougar Anderson of Skiatook. Like Taylor, he is a Freshman. I didn’t realize he won a Pan Am Schoolboy championship this fall.

At Folkstyle Nationals, AJ Ferrari is in the semis at 195 and Jalin Harper is in the semis at 160.

I did not see that his younger brother was wrestling. One thing better than getting a super blue chip recruit and that is getting that super blue chip who has an outstanding younger brother or 2. Dean Heil had the younger brothers but they were not at his level but still good wrestlers.

Jalin and AJ into the finals. AJ actually had a close match with Garret Joles, a 2x WI state champ who signed with MN.

Eli Griffin and Jordan Williams both win 100 lb titles. Hope they grow some, Eli has been wrestling in the 100 lb range for 3 years.

Jalin won 160. Didn't hit any ranked guys, but still a nice bounce back after losing his state tournament last month. Might be our starter at 157 in a few years.

AJ won 195. He is a must get.

Schickram lost in the 145 finals to Brock Hardy.

Kyle Haas won Cadet 182. Someone make sure our recruiting coordinator knows about him.

Lol, I hope he doesn't fly under the radar.

Cougar Anderson placed 3rd at Cadet 145. He lost a 9-8 decision to Perez of CA in the semis. Interestingly, Cougar was the 2016 Pan Am Schoolboy champ at 66kg while Perez won at the same event and weight in 2017.

Trey Munoz lost a close semi-final match to Facundo but came back for third defeating TX and KS state champs in the conso rounds.

Wonder if Talon is related to either John or Eddie Borror, who originally wrestked for Ark City, Kansas, back in the 1980’s. I think John graduated around 1984 and wrestled for OU, but Eddie moved to Clinton and wrestled for them. Both were studs.
