Got into a discussion the other day about how competitive you think the 2006 team would be in today's Big 10. No way they win the league, but I don't think they'd get blown out by the big boys like the last few years. I'll say 8-4, or even 9-3. Was wondering how you guys feel about it?

Give me a mock schedule and we can debate it. Depends when we played when/where.
Schiano wasn’t beating smith and tressel (who I always stated if we hired anyone from OSU it should be him and not Assh

They'd be competitive. That team had a real OL and playmakers at WR. Defensively, they would have more than held their own. The second half of the 2006 Louisville game was as dominant a defensive performance as I've ever seen. That Louisville team was no joke offensively; they were a lot more sophisticated on that side of the ball than most of the teams in the B1G are now, and RU just shut them down.

Easily 9-3....that year there was only Michigan and Ohio state ahead of us ...and those who have been a hell of game

I still think at 11-2 we still underachieved a little ...

If Lville beats us I believe they are national champs - beating tOSU in the championship game (Florida wouldve been screwed).

So yeah - that RU team would have more than held its own.

We would gone at least 10-2 with the 2006 team in the Big 10. Unless we were playing a real bottom feeder, we would have lost regardless of who we were playing in Week 10 like we did against Cincinnati. And let's not forget that we lost to WVU on the road in triple OT when we were screwed out of the Slaton fumble returned for a TD.

Real hard to figure out.

We were so much better after Game 5 when the offense began to show up. We came real close to losing at UNC and USF... maybe if they are Big Ten teams with big home field advantage we lose both of those.

Then again, the one Big Ten team we played we absolutely destroyed... and they played close games against No. 1 Ohio State and #18 Wisconsin. We gave them their lone shutout that season.. and they didn't cross midfield. Most dominant defensive performance I have seen.. outside of Flood's offenses.

I think anywhere from 8-4 to 10-2 is likely.

Replace Teel with Art Sitkowski and that team goes 11-1 in the big ten next season. No doubt. That squad was sick.

With Teel -- prob 9-3.

Let's not forget that we lost 2 of our 4 experienced WR's in camp, Daniels and Taylor. Then lost Tucker in the Howard game, leaving us with only Underwood with experience. Now Britt came on later in the season, but he was a true freshman that year.

Even Underwood only had 4 catches in 2005 and was used mainly in the wildcat as a QB/RB. That season was primed to be a huge year for Tucker but the game plan was to run the ball and keep the D fresh due to depth issues.

I think the BIG is much stronger now than it was in 2006 so this is a tricky question. If healthy, that team could play with anyone.

If we played in the B1G in 2006, we would have had the OOC schedule early in the season, so we would have faced the tough B1G teams once our offense had gelled.

And I agree that the 2006 team, especially the D and ST dominated. I think anywhere from 9-3 and 11-1 is likely.

Only thing is that teams like Wisconsin are huge. Could Foster and meekins hold up vs those big OL?

That team would have done very well as long as it would be able to stay healthy playing so many B1G teams. Secret to success in 2006 was how healthy our team stayed.
Imagine if we could have had the 2007 offense mixed with that 2006 defense...
