Remember that game and that season? CU was pretty poor at the beginning of the year, and pretty unlucky as well, losing several close games but improving as they lost.
The Buffs rolled into Lincoln 3-7 the day after Thanksgiving, while Nebraska, led by junior QB Eric Crouch, was 8-2 and slated to play in the Alamo Bowl because K-State had won the division tiebreaker.
Nebraska jumped out early, but CU hung around, and with just under a minute left took the lead on a TD pass and two-point conversion pass. Nebraska drove nearly the length of the field, and Josh Brown kicked the game-winning field goal with no time left to give Nebraska the win. Phew, right?
Guess what happened the next year? The Buffs started slowly again, but they hit their stride midseason, blew out Nebraska (anyone remember the score?) and then defeated Texas to win the Big XII title.
Not saying that's going to happen again, but I love the possible "history-repeating-itself" scenario. This NU team reminds me of that CU team, even though Adrian Martinez is a much better frosh QB than Craig Ochs, for sure.
Special Note to Iowa Lurkers
OK, Iowa fan, I know I wrote about the past. But I can hold three different ideas in my brain at the same time, and that means I can simultaneously revel in past glory, lament present failures and hope for future triumph.
Enjoy today's victory. That's the present, after all. Or is it now the past? Damn.
