Greg Peterson from Rivals was talking with Mark Rogers on his Huskers live show on Weds. and says don't be surprised if NU takes Thompson and Purdy both from the portal. Thompson is #1 and Purdy is 1a. Frost has a strong link with Thompson and Whipple with Purdy... Where's the popcorn???

Don't know how to paste the link.

This would be a move in the right direction…

It's gotta be hard for this many guys in the portal to find the "perfect" situation aka P5 program and a virtual guaranteed starting job. Maybe neither one of them has been able to find that scenario so they have to be willing to compete a little?

I would be very happy with taking multiple QB’s. However, that might mean we lose Smothers, who has proven just as much or more than Purdy to this point. But more competition and talent is a good thing and it would work it’s self out in a scenario like that.

Who would you rather lose at this point Smothers or Haarberg?

It’s probably time to stop kidding ourselves with this nonsense.

Next year’s QB is going to be a combo of Bunch/Vedral/Jordan Adams.

Today probably Haarberg. If we get multiple portal QB’s Smothers.

If we couldn’t get a plug and play QB this cycle, Smothers gives us the best chance to win now. But if we don’t need them to play now and they have time to develop, I love the long term potential of HH.

I'm not sure how anyone can say this, especially after all the "he gives us the best chance to win" puke we've been drowned in the last 2 years.

smothers is 0-1 in his career, blowing a double-digit lead in the 4th quarter, and looking pretty much the same as the last 2 guys who couldn't hack it here while doing so.

nobody knows what we have in HH. could be something, could be nothing, but likely won't look anything like the luke/adrian nightmares of old. that's as welcome a change as any of us could ask for.

Without a portal QB, the other options are a lightly recruited HS kid coming off a ACL, a walk-on and a kid one year removed from playing class C ball in Nebraska, who was behind the walk on on the depth chart last year. I feel pretty confident in saying Smothers is our best option right now, with those options.

I heard last year the staff didn’t have a lot of faith in Smothers arm strength making certain throws..

Heard Gary Sharp mentioning this a couple weeks ago..

Nebraska being able to grab two quality portal QB prospects would be the best thing for the program. Gives the new offensive staff multiple options to choose the best QB from the group and hopefully start developing the younger players. I would love to see competition at all positions and so grabbing two top transfer QBs would be fabulous for the QB room going forward.

is it remotely possible the shortstop from KC is the darkhorse none of us are considering? pretty sure he was just named Gatorade POY in KS after leading his squad to a state title.

big kid, rocket arm, winning program. both he and Frost have said he'll play both sports. already signed with NU. football offers from both in-state schools.

I know people that have seen Pauley play and they say he’s a stud. It will be interesting to see how the football/baseball marriage plays out.

Jameis pitched for FSU while also starting at QB. tons of position players have done both.

only recent QB and full-time baseball position player I can think of is Kyler Murray. worked well for him, but he's also a once in a generation athlete, so...

He’s not a good choice for 2022 season, but I’m still very curious about how Whipple can develop Haarberg’s arm.
Kid seems to have a cannon that we’ve been missing.

I'd have to look it up, but wasn't Mississippi St. QB on the CWS winning baseball team.

I don't particularly want to lose either Smothers or Haarberg.

I think you have to start spending a lot of time with Haarberg though. Get him up to speed as soon as you can.

Smothers is the kind of guy you want as a backup and who could still possibly do some things if you needed to play him for an extended time. I'm not sure either of those guys have better options in the portal right now, so not as worried about losing them.

If the staff can get both Chubba and Casey in the door, that would be an ideal competition scenario for next spring, but I'd rather Whipple makes the QB evaluations and decisions and don't trust that Scott will keep his nose out of it.

Logan Smothers was rated higher than both of those guys out of high school. If we want to take one of them to compete for the job with Logan, I'm all for it. But neither of these two guys has shown anything yet to say that they are a sure fire starter in Whipple's offense next year.

Not true. Chubb was like a 92. Thompson 90 something. And Logan was 89

The three are basically the same in terms of regard as a recruit.
