There's a lot of opinions mixed in to other threads about what should be done at this weight this year so I thought I'd start a thread devoted to this. Options - go with Ronnie or shirt him, go with Figs, start Jax early - any other viable options? Pros and cons of each?

Go with Ronnie and Tagen. Ronnie might struggle against Elite guys since 133 is stacked. But he will give us more point opportunities than Richie.
Same with Jamieson. Tagen might struggle against top 1-4 guys at 149, but still better option than Casey.

I've been a big Ronnie fan for months now so of course I want to see him in the lineup. I still like Figs as well though and hope he can turn things around

For people knowledgeable about such things, how difficult would it be for Ronnie to make a real improvement in the strength department in the next 3 months?

Another question I have is whether Figs has any freestyle aspirations? I think his skills would be well-suited for freestyle and he could do well if he gets in better shape. I know he made some age group World teams in the past and has a cadet silver

If Jax is an option (I'm not sure he is) then go with Jax. There's plenty of RS options in the next 4/5 years. If no on Jax then RR. Regardless whoever wrestles this year (non Fig) is going to jump levels because of the competition at 133. If redshirting you are just wrestling room guys.

Agree that Ronnie looks better than Figs right now and that Ronnie will struggle against top 10 competition. I think he really needs a year more of physical maturity and hitting the weights to be a top 133 guy. He seems small for the weight as well.
So... is there 100% chance that Jax will not wrestle for the team this year?

Without synthetic assistance, gaining much size and strength this season.

That hay is basically in the barn.

On why people think he would struggle? IMO, he is better than Ayala right now. Ayala pulling that match out was exactly that…he wasn’t the better Wrestler and needed an Iowa pushing stall call to get it to overtime.

IMO, Ronnie is a ln AA threat right now. At the very least, blood round guy. With the right draw, he could easily AA.

Figs is struggling to beat anyone, I’ll take my chances on RR.

If Jax enrolls 2nd semester, might there be some minor advantages to doing a hybrid? Plan on RR for the post season but use Jax for a couple of duals ..ISU and Iowa. RR would miss the learning he might get from those two duals but might help his tournament seeding.

Figs can leave during the Christmas Break, he has shown absolutely NOTHING in his time in an Orange singlet. Go with Ronnie for sure. We have several lightweight studs coming in next year and he can always drop down to 125 once Spratley's eligibility is up.

Jax cannot enroll, unless he plans on competing. Once he enrolls, his clock starts.

That said, relax on Figs. I’m in the Ronnie camp full blast. Figs is so good it’s crazy…for about 2 minutes.

Let’s see what happens. March is a long way out, I bet it gets straightened out around the last week of February.

Not sure what they will do. I'm in the camp that you wrestle him. Tomorrow is never a guarantee he's healthy and can compete with the competition immediately let him wrestle

Figs lost to a backup that sits behind the #13 guy. Ronnie BEAT the #13 guy. Figs could go 0-2 at NCAAs and no one would be surprised. Can he turn it around? IDK but how do we gamble on that? And we have to decide pretty soon because Ronnie is close to all his dates.

If he wrestles in the next 3 dates on the schedule looks like Jan 11 it needs to be decided by.

If Figs cant wrestle good in Cougar clash, he aint gonna do it in March. Unfortunately he needs to wrestle and stay in for more than 2 mins.
Even lets say he improves his gas tank and increases it from 2 mins to 4 mins, still not good enough. Its tough to talk bad about a guy who committed to us. But it is what it is.

I truly see no reason to keep starting Figs. Ronnie has proven he’s far and away the better wrestler.

Explain to us why Figs doesn't just stall for the first two minutes and then open up?
Yeah his match strategy is almost like... "I'm going to try some new things and see what happens"

Most wrestlers with gas tank issues conserve energy until the ends of periods. Figs either isn't aware of his gas tank or is purposefully choosing to burn it up early.

Question is then, does the staff trust him to wrestle matches more traditionally in March?

Ronnie is probably a 133 pounder for his college career. The best barometer I can think of is the Southern Scuffle which will have some tough competition. I am not sure if Jax can stay at 133 for his career.

Has Jax ever wrestled in a college style tournament against some really good riders?
