11.7 Scholarships rule - time to protest?

Maybe Rowdy should take a knee in the batters box for the first pitch of every game to create some awareness of the scholarship discrepancies in college baseball?

One thing I’ve learned in the last few years. If enough people are mad about something it will change.

For the off money making sports they should just allow the schools to do what they want. It doesn't have to be even. I think the title 9 stuff should stay in place, but other than that it should be school choice where they want to put their scholarship money. It already isn't an even playing field. We already have schools that have state scholarship money that can be used for athlete's and not count against the 11.7. If a school wants to concentrate on Baseball, Soccer, Women's Basketball, Hockey or Lacrosse and it fits their books let them do it. You can have minimums, but if MSU can afford more, let them. All they are doing is providing more opportunity for education.

Raise money, get lawyers to approve the language, fund players. It's college sports. Since when have we had lack of creative ways to give altheletes stuff. Figure it out.

Vanderbilt is actually a good counter to the argument that taking scholarships from football and giving them to baseball would be taking money from black students and giving it to white students. I don’t know the stats, but I feel like Vanderbilt has significantly more black players than other SEC schools, and a lot of that has to do with their ability to give full scholarships. Funding more scholarships allows for opportunities for people from lower income backgrounds regardless of race, but it would almost surely diversify college baseball and likely MLB

The other issue that I don’t see cited much is that softball has 12 scholarships. The NCAA is probably scared that it’d look like inequity if you gave a similar male sport more scholarships than a female sport. Except you need waaay more pitchers in baseball, so it’s not the same.

There is also some precedent for inequity in scholarships as well. For example, women’s basketball gets 15 while men’s gets 13

Who would have thought that the day would come that playing Vanderbilt in baseball would create so much pissing and moaning among State fans?

Vandy does not compete on a level playing field with most of the rest of college baseball, but reality is that if our LF catches a fly ball that hit the center of his glove & the home plate umpire does ridiculously tighten C-Macs strike zone late In the third that we probably win last night & are playing for a series win tonight.

I thought about that but I think that money would hafta be made available to all students. Vandy can afford that with their small student body and the amount of students that get free academic rides or come from families that call Vandy tuition a rounding error.
