This is strange unless all conferences have the same quote unquote cap.

And if all teams in the sec can spend the same great news for UK football and UK basketball is done. Never gonna be what we used to be unless we have one of the best coaches n the game. We currently do not sadly.

This is sorely needed across the country. Currently the big 10 is just outspending everyone in by a mile.

The exception is duke basketball and Oregon football. The former is just unmatched in terms of ability to direct money to players.
I would absolutely love this just for the aspect of what this means for Duke. Assuming ACC follows suite which i bet they do.

Duke is paying extra millions for starting-caliber players to sit on the bench. Just like I said NIL would be huge for a school like Duke (with millionaire alumni and no real football program).. a salary cap would be equally damaging. Duke basketball would turn into just another private school. Theyre making this happen with the highest NIL payout, AND the back channels they use to pay for players like Zion. If this starts to get audited (think of the LAC finding ways to circumvent the salary cap, and get caught doing it), Duke will take a major hit.

Honestly, probably not a great thing for UK basketball. But its not like our current NIL is fielding great teams anyways lol

Duke has not played by the rules in decades and no chance this would be enforced on them either.

Probably not. They'd find other ways. But if you implement a salary cap than there will need to be departments and oversight for tracking it. And there will be punishments for circumventing it.

For decades Duke has been that one extremely rich school, with zero care for football, who didnt mind outspending everyone else for players.. by a lot. Thats gonna at least make things a little more difficult if there are now rules around how much you can apply to the roster.

The colleges just keep coming up with proposed solutions that create as many problems as they fix. This is due to their insistence that athletes not be employees despite the fact college football and basketball is big business. There is no solution that doesn't have issues, but I think separating big business from the universities with subsidiaries (like UK has already done) may be the route that solves the most problems (functional, fair playing field, and legal) - something similar to the European club model. The NCAA Div. I would be like the NBA/NFL/MLB in that rules govern all that belong. The players are still students and any academic requirements desired by the NCAA would apply. A salary cap could be legally instituted through collective bargaining. For example, 40% to players and 60% to the subsidiaries. The colleges would receive the profits after subsidiary expenses - e.g., coaching staffs, facilities, etc. just like professional teams.

Way too complicated to discuss all the detailed pros and cons, but I do think this model is likely the best compromise. However, it seems this would have to be forced on the colleges as historically they have not been willing to voluntarily be proactive.

Just stupid. All that will do is send players elsewhere.

And it’s not salary so it will be an easy court decision to smack down.
This. The big advantage the sec and big 10 have right now is their ability out spend the big 12/acc. It's counterproductive for leadership to do that.
