On paper, Sunny has done a masterful job of cleaning up much of the absolute mess left behind by Fitzgerald. However, there are still glaring issues through 3 games. The defense, which is now also banged up, has problems at every level. 1 puck-mover and 5 guys skating in mud. People were rightly concerned about the goaltending entering the season, and I've seen nothing that inspires confidence through 3 games. Zero regulation goals from Hughes, Hischier, Bratt & Meier. They've yet to play with a lead.

I wonder how long Keefe's leash is. He's not Sunny's hire and has put together a pair of basically .500 seasons heading into this one. If this is a middling team at Thanksgiving, I could see a change. With that said, this core group has already run through plenty of coaches...

Hellebuyck to NJ made so much sense for months now. Sunny went out and got his man. What they gave up was largely underwhelming and they're still well positioned for more. Larkin next?

Seems like every time NJ has a lousy goaltender they go somewhere else and turn out to be not lousy after all (OK, side note, bizarre that both Wedgewood and Blackwood were drafted by NJ out of Ontario and now both play for Colo). So, part of me is skeptical that the real problem is goaltending as opposed to other stuff. But hopefully I'm wrong.

Someone with the word Hell in their name is now a Devil. At the end of the road leading to "The Rock" is HELL. All this just in time for HELLoween. Gotta LOVE it!

They just took 12 of 16 points from that 8 game gauntlet (@ WSH, COL, ANA, LA, @ DAL, @ COL, @ VGK, EDM) and looked very impressive in doing so. This is exactly what it's supposed to look like under Keefe - they are just suffocating teams with possession. There's an air around the team that just feels different right now. The forward depth is an immeasurable help and the defense looks much improved - Luke especially.

They were 15-7-1 at Thanksgiving last year, so a hot start isn't unprecedented. But the team looks far better this year.

I think the 3 on3 OT period is one of the best things the NHL has ever done. Very exciting.
I’m a hockey purist and when they first went to 3 on 3 it felt like an insult to the sport. But it really works with the open skating and end to end action. Makes you wonder if the NHL would be better off if they expanded the rink size similar to a wider European rink without shortening it.

"We just started making it up and tried to see how cool we could be. That's not winning hockey." - Keefe on blowing the 4-1 lead. Better to learn those lessons in wins, I guess.

Up next are the Isles, who have outscored them 15-0 in their last 2 meetings at UBS. Devils owe them a beating.

Was glad to see Sheldon come out with that energy. This team has had trouble fading after strong starts. Maturity is key.
