How would he do it? Stay in highschool train with us but don’t play? Reclass earlier and can’t play in this year? Or maybe join the team at winter?

part of me assumed him and yann would want to play this last year together BUT if somehow Cherif did join us mid year THEN yann could just reclass and not have to worry about messing with rankings

From someone pretty plugged in that we might not have to wait until the 27-28 season to see cherif in kentucky blue. Might be joining the cats early to train and develop.

Unless someone is just top tier elite, or are old by measure, reclassing makes zero sense for the school in an nil environment. You're literally paying them for nothing then have to renegotiate to get them back.

So lets hope not. Lets hope we aren't going to pay nil money for someone to just practice.

If that happens he is 100% going the Sharpe route. He isn't so excited to "train" and get on campus just because he loves Kentucky.
I don't see the similarity in the two situations. Sharpe was a top 20 draft pick and I don't think a year sitting out would put Millago in that situation. Everybody that is a top 10 pick is almost certainly gone but for players that don't have that assurance the college money looks a little better now. It wasn't that way when Sharpe was here. If there had been $5-7million for Sharpe to come back I don't think he'd have entered the draft. He was after the money and we would have had the best offer under today's rules.

Show me a top 10 recruit in basketball that has enrolled early, not played that year and then returned the next year. If there are any, it's extremely rare.

I dont see a top ten draft pick coming back under any circumstance. Especially when theres no extra love attached like in the Sharpe situation. Even a Kentucky boy like Reed was gone with the wind. A legacy recruit.

I think we agree? I'm not sure where Sharpe went in the draft. My point is that, unless a player is a top 10 pick, the college money is going to be more(usually). I think the last guy in the 1st gets around 3.5 million the 1st year with a sharp dropoff in the second round, while the top college pay seems to be $6-7 million. So the decisions of players that didn't get NIL a few years ago really don't mean much in today's environment.

Name one in the NIL era.
Name one what? A player that sit out a year and didn't go pro the next year? Pretty much all of them that weren't projected draft picks and I don't know of such a situation besides the Sharpe thing anywhere.

Do you think a top 10 recruit wouldn't be picked in the first round? I don't understand your thinking. What would be his reasoning of enrolling a year early and not playing? 4 months of NIL? No chance.

Yea I agree with you overall I wasn't going against anything just saying Sharpe was gone no matter if we had 6 or 7 million or not. Im almost positive he was like number 7 in the draft or something. 6 or 7 million wasn't stopping Reed either.

First of all I do not and have never thought the guy would enroll a year early and sit out. I have merely said there is a tremendous difference between being a first round pick and a top 10 pick in the first round. The college superstar that would get drafted in the second half of the first round will make a lot more money in college for the next year under the current environment. Haugh of Florida reportedly got $8mil to come back and a player drafted where he was projected last year got around $5mil. With that much difference most players will take the bigger pile of gold.

We aren't going to pay a him 8 million though. That is proven college star money. Haugh, Milan, etc. I could see a player that didn't have to play a second in college be ok with going 1st round.

He wasn't guaranteed top 10; he's currently projected 14th next draft. He was a guaranteed 1st round pick but he's making considerably more money this year at Florida than the guy drafted in his place.
No one is guaranteed. Haugh was a projected lottery pick in the last draft not just a first round pick. What he’s making has nothing to do with the context of the post I replied to.
