I deal with hourly wage employees in several different regions of the country. I don’t know if this is profound info but…

Urban/City areas always pay more than rural areas. For instance… rural areas in OH, GA and FL pay pretty much exactly the same as my areas in MS.

An area in Atlanta and Columbus, OH pay significantly more.

So it tracks that the state with the least urban/city population reports the lowest average wage.

Trust me.. folks making $30/hr in Houston, MS are living the same as folks making $30/hour in Albany, GA and Springfield, OH.

Also 30 an hour in Mississippi goes further than 30 an hour in Ohio.

Here is the same chart normalized for cost of living differences. Keep in mind, since these numbers are now on 1 standard scale - the largest salaries are basically the best. Good for those DC lawyers**

Question:

Is this an example of lazy AI work? For some reason, the lowest has WV tagged but still points to MS. It’s also confusing why there is a line drawn from GA to WV.

Ha, I saw that and thought about correcting it. In a weird way, it seemed like something a human would do.

I'm pretty surprised at Missouri. It's above each of it's bordering states by a notable amount. I thought Massachusetts was notable too. I tend to think of all the NE states as 1 common place. It's towering above its neighbors as well.
