He’s not wrong. Every single thread about basketball gets multiple posts bashing pope and the team. It’s made basketball discussion nearly impossible, a lot like our political climate. You try to have a good faith, logical discussion and one side ***** on the table and accuses you of farting. It’s crazy
Are we going to ignore the crazy pope lovers who turned a thread not even about him to bash other fans?

This.

And no one hates Pope. We loved him as a player here because he won.

He will be loved as a coach here if he wins something that matters. This is UK, not BYU or Utah valley state. Those fans may be ok with never winning anything that matters but UK fans arent.

And its comical someone says people hate Pope yet that poster literally hated Cal. Pope and Cal both won UK a national title and Cal went to like almost 25% of our final fours n history in a 5 year span...but posters like that other guy hated him when he was doing that! Insanity.

No, my father's East Texas A&M was in the D-II Lone Star Conference as Texas A&M University–Commerce. They have only been D-I (Southland) since 2022-2023. That is who OU lost to!
Who is on that team? The box score suggests a junior and frosh are worthy of keeping track of as possible transfers at season end.

I highly doubt anyone "hates" him. Very strong word and 99.99 percent of the fanbase doesn't know him personally.

But that doesnt mean they hate him.

And honestly does it matter if they do? Some on this board spent many many years ACTUALLY hating Calipari (or certainly more than Pope) and the rest of us just had to deal with it.

Like I said, I think Pope has one more chance to prove hes worth keeping here. But if this is another 7-seed 2nd round flameout than he has to go. And if he doesn't, than people will more and more begin to dislike him (and the fanatics may start to "hate" him).
When you tear a guy down the way these guys tear Pope down, there is 100% hate in those posts.

There's a difference between personal hate and hating Pope as our coach.

They hate that he is corny, they hate that he took his dream job that was offered to him, they hate that his ciaching style, they hate that he's too soft, they hate how he looks like a thumb and they hate that he can't recruit 5 star kids.

These people also REFUSE to say a positive word about Mark Pope. I don't know what you guys want to call it, but they certainly don't like him, that is 100% on the money. They tear down every win and accomplishment in his career. That's hate, maybe not personsl hate, but it's hate.

Because it fits the majority of men these days.
No I think he means this specific word to describe that quality. It’s from Shakespeare/Chaucer old English literature. Derived from the cuckoo bird due to the female laying her eggs in other birds’ nests to trick them into incubating them.

I’ve also wondered why this weird word has taken off again.

J Batt gets ZERO credit for Ky successfully competing in those sports including a trip to the College World Series in 2025.
I wish him super success in the future & will judge him on his talent as AD from this point forward.

Who is on that team? The box score suggests a junior and frosh are worthy of keeping track of as possible transfers at season end.
The Jr, Bo Aldridge, is a 6'4" SF/SG who landed at East Texas after a Freshman season at Hutchinson Community College (averaged 14.6 PPG & 6 RPG). No idea about his Sophomore campaign (there is news he was transferring to Cenrtal Arizona CC, but I cannot find stats for him anywhere for the '25-'26 season). He was a 3-star out of HS and held 22 offers (including from Ole Miss, Mississippi St., Oklahoma, and Arizona State). Committed to Arizona State originally but decommitted shortly after five-star recruit Joson Sanon flipped his commitment from Zona to the Sun Devils. Nickname is "Bo Buckets"!

The Freshman is Mohamed Diakite, a 6'9" Forward, from France. Highlights suggest he can get to the rim and fight for rebounds. Looks to be kind of a 10 and 7 guy. Worth keeping tabs on. Information is a bit hard to come by otherwise. Did see an article claiming he had a good Adidas Eurocamp and exhibited "mobility & shooting touch".

I only saw the highlights and the box score of the game, so I can't say too much as to the true eye test. Nice win for the Lions! I secretly wish them well as my niece played volleyball for them through their D1 transition.

I'm a big Pope critic because I just don't think he's the man for the job. But I don't dislike the man. I think he's a little weird and corny but I don't dislike him. The man that I'm mad at is Mitch freakin' Barnhart for hiring an unqualified coach like Pope. I was irate the night I found out we were targeting Pope because he had been a HC for quite some time and had nothing on his resume that qualified him to be UK's HC. Pope would've been stupid to turn down his dream job so it's hard to fault him for taking it. But there were better candidates we could've turned to before ever looking at Pope. Thanks for another terrible hire, Mitch.
I don't think it's fair to judge a coach based off their resume beforehand. Todd Golden never finished higher than 4th in the West Coast Conference and never had less than 10 losses in a season before getting hired at Florida. Then somehow he immediately turns Florida into a powerhouse out of nowhere. Pope had a much better coaching resume than Golden.

Getting hired at Florida is way different than Kentucky. Or at least used to be. Not so much this century.

Football and men’s basketball are all that really matters. They are the money makers. The rest are participation trophies.

Mitch gave Stoops like a $50 million buyout while being a . 500 coach. We are also going through probably our worst decade as a basketball program.

I think the percentage of fans that want Kentucky to lose fluff games to drive home the point that Pope isn't the right coach at UK is very, very small. Most of us want to beat these teams by 50 and still know that Pope has already shown enough to determine he is in over his head.

This is not true or should I say it’s as equally true as the “Pope Haters” acting like there are 100 posters on here that would support Pope no matter what. Both are hyperbolic BS and have made this board worse than even the end of the Tubby era.

@jeffky I like you my wildcat friend and you fight the good fight but you’ve become part of the problem.

Very much true, as I and others aren’t lying or imagining things. Quoting everyone who says this doesn’t strengthen your case that no one does it, by the way.

Keep up the baseless negativity, you’re such a great fan and so much more of a fan than the people who want Pope and Uk succeed. You’re so smart and intelligent, you can even see the future. What a wonderful fan you are….. 🤣🤭🤭🤭

lol. Point me to where I’ve made the case that no one does it.

Also, if one of you could pull up any post where I hoped UK and Pope don’t succeed I’d appreciate it.

I’ll save you some time, there’s not any. I’ve never wavered. always said I’ll root on the Cats and Pope this year. Don’t think he’s the guy but will be rooting like hell for them each game.

Calling me a negative poster (which is laughable) proves that some on both ends of the spectrum only want to hear what they want to hear.

There is some real irony hearing this from you after all the stuff you said about Cal for YEARS. I figured you of all people would keep this same stance of basically "you can hate the coach and say whatever you want".. I dont see any difference in what you wrote about Cal than what 99.9% of what others are saying about Pope.

Of course, bringing up Popes religion or his family and stuff like that is uncalled for. But again, i think thats few and far between (and may not even be UK fans).

People dislike Pope as of now because hes not getting it done, nor HAS he gotten it done at any point here at UK (and elsewhere). We have yet to be any sort of threat to win anything of importance in March, let alone the title. We are missing on transfer after transfer, recruit after recruit. His teams have often looked completely checked out, he doesnt run a tight ship. The defense is atrocious. Hes making just as bad of roster decisions as Cal was doing.

In the end, the undisputed fact is that Cal at least had some awesome success here, and that, for right or wrong, builds you a lot of runway. Unfortunately, Pope doesnt have that, not even a bit. You cant be this mediocre when you have nothing backing you.

Typical RR trash, they dig up anything they can to hate on someone. I've never heard Pope preach, or force his religion on anyone, but reading this board, you would think he was talking about Mormonism in every interview.

Let’s be real: Mormonism is like one step above Scientology as far as weirdo cults are concerned. I don’t hate Pope, but I’m not going to say I like how manipulative Mormonism is when you ask many former members of that church. There’s a lot of problematic stuff with Mormonism.

I was a huge Cal fan and stuck up for him endlessly, until it was clear that he didn't give a sh*t about UK, or winning. He coached for the NBA draft, so he deserved what I said about him.

Also, huge difference here, if he did something good, I was the first one to come on here and give him his flowers. That is much different than the hate getting thrown at Pope even though Pope would give his right arm for UK.

Pope is all about UK, Cal wasn’t, big difference.

I want Kentucky to go 40-0 every year, and spank Louisville and Tennessee 100-0. If Pope delivers results that we expect, no one will hope that they lose. If Pope fails, it means we're losing; at that point, IF we're going to lose, lose big so it forces changes. Just like with Stoops. I got (inexplicably) banned when I said that I hoped Tennessee beats us 84-21 in football last year (we were down 49-21 at the time). Did I like losing by a million to Vandy or Louisville? No. But we got Will Stein out of it.

There is problematic stuff with a lot of religions. Take Catholicis, just for one, but no one slammed Pitino or Cal for being Catholics. Or for having a priest on the bench.

Exactly, nothing more or nothing less. It's about results. Pope's nerdiness looks great when he wins. Golden and Hurley look amazing because they win titles; otherwise, they're just a couple of ********.

I don’t remember Catholicism having to reject racist nonsense in their own book like Mormons have had to do just a few decades ago. And pointing out pedophilia doesn’t apply when there’s nothing in the Bible that suggests it’s OK for priests to diddle kids.

Pope is all about UK, Cal wasn’t, big difference.

But that's all just your opinion. And it's also your own criteria. Who is to say what you can and can't criticize a coach for? You think it's because Cal just cared about the draft, I think it's more apt to criticize a coach who can't recruit and isn't a threat in march.

I'm just telling you, you sat here for the better part of a decade blasting Cal daily.. you're not going to get the pull the "hey be nice to Pope!" bit.

Also, lets not pretend that at the end of the day this isn't still just a job for Pope. Does he love UK? Sure, neat. You think he's neccesarily going to do what's right for the program? And put UK ahead of his own interests? I don't. He's not going to walk away from this job if he wins 10-games this year, despite that being what the program needs. He's not going to turn down a buyout. So let's not pretend Pope is some UK saint. It's still a job and he's going to do whatever it takes to get paid, UK be damned.

I hated Cal for the better part of a decade? That's wrong. It was the covid team that turned me. That was 20/21, so 4 years and there was a lot going on there that brought that on. Barking at the fans and calling us Bennies, while you're getting smoked by mid majors at home, isn't a good look.

But again, I complimented him when he did good things, that's not happening with the Pope haters.

And what did Pope do to deserve the hate? Did he bark at fans? No, he played the 2 toughest SOS's in UK history with heavy injuries… .that's it.

But that's not the only thing, the haters go on full attack mode towards anyone they deem a "pumper". If they didn't do that, I wouldn't say sh*t.

And this is more than just a job for Pope. That's not even possible.
