Do you think we will ever regain the joy in BB that we are having in FB right now ?

I hope Mark Pope is wildly successful this season. I am optimistic about this team, but concerned about just how competitive we’ll be against good teams.
If we need to make the change, the answer is not far at SLU. I’ve been ringing the bell for Josh Shertz for a while now. If Pope doesn’t perform at Kentucky standard, make the move quickly.
We’ll be battling other big programs for Shertz at the end of the season.
Agreed completely. Hope like hell Pope kills it this year. Should he not, hope like hell Schertz is way high on the list. Dude is good.

If we are winning, yes. Winning cures all, look at Football. Find me one fan unhappy right now.
There’s a couple here that’s just waiting for that I told you so moment. They can’t wait until we lose. So maybe not unhappy, but definitely not happy about our football team doing so well and the basketball team not being great. Even though Football success would only help every other sport.

I’m honestly shocked by the number of Pope pumpers not-so-subtly pushing Stein rumors for every college job that opens up. Beyond the absurdity of Stein pulling a Lane Kiffin his first season on the team his dad played for and he’s rooted for as a child, I don’t know why you’d be so negative about a guy who is 7-1. Why even talk about the possibility of him leaving at this stage?

I call them something else. Begins with an A and ends with an e.
I used to make fun of other fan bases but our bball fans have become one of the most miserable, most negative and most annoying fan bases out there and it started long before pope
How they obsess over the doings on 50 different recruits when we will only get five or so and do same for exhibition practices never ceases to amaze. Just flood the forum with redundant threads on the same subject showing how oblivious - or needy - they are.

Tuesday Nov 3rd. When we start the season. I think all Cat fans will be thrilled with the results and will love this team when CMP uses our real offense

On a somewhat parallel question: Which will UK play in first, a National title game in football or basketball (whether with Pope or not).

Although we are trending down Hoosier way, I’m not ready to think our blue blood status is in jeopardy.

"this board that I spend all my time on and have a negative relationship with everyone here."
I get more likes and positive than negative responses everyday. As usual, you think people who wake up every morning who insult the players, coaches, and fans who support them as "everyone"

Depends on NIL allocation. Football needs more allocation to get to the very top IMO. And yes we are 7 and 1 and look good so far but have won a lot of close games. Stoops was 7 and 1 one season too. We finished 9 and 3.

To make a national title game u probably gotta win 13 games or so to appear n it assuming 2 losses. Thats a tall task.

Basketball won't sniff a title game until Pope is gone. But UK spends a ton on NIL so a good coach who can also recruit can win a title or make a title game n year 1 or 2. Way easier to do n basketball due to how easy it is to build a great team.

Have said in several threads about football and basketball, the reasons why UK is able to compete with big boys and have this type of season in football are the same reasons we can slide in basketball. Programs once comfortably below us can beat us.

SEC basketball has never been as deep and talented with players and coaches as it is now.

LSU, Oklahoma, etc have to get used to UK competing with and beating them in football…vice versa in basketball.
You say that but we seem to be the only top program struggling.

Honestly? Not until our fans get realistic. I don’t think Pope is the guy. That’s clear based on my posting history. I say that because of his career as a coach. However, there was a time our fanbase was labeled “one of the most knowledgeable and passionate basketball fanbases.” Mark Stoops did stuff for the football program that hadn’t happened since the 70s. It wasn’t always pretty of course. Cal won the only championship since the calendar hit 2000. Read this board and you’ll see nothing, but bashing and hatred toward both. I get it wasn’t the best at the end of their tenures, but somewhere along the way the most knowledgeable fanbase has become pretty arrogant and hateful in several ways. It started before Cal left. There were recruits that went elsewhere because other coaches used things said by Kentucky fans online to turn them elsewhere. Ian Jackson at St. John’s went to UNC over UK because of the toxic part of BBN online. The same thing is happening now. Zoom Diallo deleted social media three exhibition games inbecause of it. Exhibition games! He is going to be needed for this team to have success and a lot of the fanbase has already alienated him before a game that counts. You think that won’t be used by opposing coaches recruiting in the portal? It doesn’t matter if Pope continues to coach or someone new. That’s going to be an obstacle.
Not what Ian Jackson said

You can have joy right now just learn to enjoy being mid and liking the product because it's Kentucky basketball with no expectation of winning or having post season success.

I'll be perfectly honest. Between the last few years of cal and then the Mark Pope experience (which was fine the first year) my overall GAF level for basketball has been at all time low.

I used to clear my whole schedule, friends and such would check and make sure UK wasn't playing a Basketball game before they even hit me up to see what I was doing.

now I've missed several games because I didn't care enough to know they were playing.
Used to feel sick with a loss like literally queezy stomach, now I just roll my eyes and move on. Now I feel that inside when football is in a close game.

All of it's not Pope, a lot of it was started and manifested under Cal especially the last few years well since COVID. I watched the exhibition games sure but I didn't come away with any impression that this team will drive the interest back up and a rocky year is on tap. I'm glad football is having a good year because it's just depressing to not be good in either one.

I’m starting to wonder…

Most likely we would if we fired Pope and the next coach came in and started winning titles again but I don’t know that’s it’s as clear cut as some might think. I know it’s been over a decade but there’s clearly been a different feeling around the program since the Wisconsin loss in 2015. That loss clearly neutered Cal but it also killed something inside a lot of fans.

No.
Not because I doubt Pope, or his eventual successors. But because we are UK, we are a Basketball school first and foremost. UK Football could win the National Championship, and we would still be a Basketball school. Thus expectations are always high, often unreasonably high for our basketball team. The 96 and 12 teams won championships and only lost 2 games each, and many of BBN were saying "what's wrong with the Cats" after those 2 losses and even after some wins. In 2015 we were undefeated until our season ending loss, yet there were times that season where some of BBN were saying "what's wrong with the Cats".
But in football, especially this year, year 1 after a coaching change, when before the season we were supposed to lose every single P4 game we played (except maybe not Vandy). We are 7-1 & 5-1, we are F'ing playing with "house money". Pressure, what pressure, there's no pressure, we've already achieved more than expected. UK basketball, no matter how successful can never be in that situation. I mean sure, maybe if we had 20 losing seasons in a row making IU's fall from grace look like a minor speed bump.
