OT: R.I.P. Coach June Jones

RIP to a great coach and an innovator of offense.

I used to love watching those Hawaii teams in the early 2000s in the very late game while in Vegas at the sportsbook. He made football fun to watch and had quite a career with stops in almost every league you can think of. Even played QB for the Falcons for a bit. Gone too soon.

RIP to a football trail blazer whose ideas continue to be part of modern coaching strategy
>He won 76 games in nine seasons, the most of any coach in the modern era of Hawaii football, with six bowl trips, two WAC titles and three 10-win seasons. The 2007 team, led by Heisman finalist Colt Brennan, finished the regular season 12-0 and played Georgia in the Sugar Bowl on January 1, 2008. Georgia won 41-10, but nobody who coaches the game forgets what that Hawaii team did with an offense most of the country had written off.>

Yes I always remember Hawaii vs Fresno in early AM hours. They call the Hawaii v Fresno games "The Most Heated Rivalry Nobody Heard Of" - played since 1938. I remember one game where fans were fighting in stands and throwing trash that was blowing all over the field. The game was like a Twilight Zone scene, Colt Brennan was a great college QB (Fentanyl OD in 2021)

Hawaii is known for having produced a lot of service academy coaches. Army's Monken coached there with Navy ex HC Ken Niumatalolo, Paul Johnson and another former Army Coach Rich Ellerson. I saw Hawaii play at USMA and they used to do the Haka. Their radio announcers were different and used to call hard hits "manly man" tackles. Even their pregame wam-ups were different (slow and lazy).

One year Hawaii fan threw a screwdriver on to the field and Jones named rivalry game "Battle for the Golden Screwdriver,"

RIP. I remember him with the Falcons as an OC under Glanville as well as his head coaching days here. He also had a lot of success at Hawaii.

Another one who isn't taking the Rutgers job once Keli gets around to firing you-know-who!

It's a joke, relax.
