The big thing I’m curious about, is deferred contracts.
I team like the Dodgers will have $60-100 mil tied up in these for retired players for a decade.
do the change it to be ok but the full amount ties into that current year’s cap?
God only knows what WILL happen. But IMHO what SHOULD happen is continuation of the status quo - use of discounted present value. That approach most closely reflects actual economic value.

Specifically - Ohtani will receive $68M per year 10 years from now. That equates to $46M per year now. For luxury tax (and possibly salary cap) purposes, they are charged $46M. What's the problem?

There should be no cap at all period is what should happen.

That the owner of the yanks who makes more money than anyone wants one is the most embarrassing/despicable thing I've ever seen. You also want the new Orioles owner saying he wanted a franchise because all his friends are telling him how much money they're making. I can't even believe we're coming to this moment soon. The owners have already saved a ton of money eliminating minor league teams since the last CBA.

his deferred salary is going to be $68 mil per year after he is retired- my point is not about a luxury tax- it is more about if they create a firm cap.

Which makes Lindor the RCA Victor!

(The young'uns among us can look it up.)
You old dog! ;) Bonus points if you know his name without looking it up (I did not).

I was not aware of the entire history of the Talking Machine.
For anyone ever in the Belmar-Wall Area, there is an interesting museum of radio and television on the old Fort Monmouth Camp Evans Campus. There is also a shipwreck museum and fire apparatus museum.

Funny thing- me and the Mrs were talking about the old RCA just this past weekend, as they had a research center in the Princeton (David Sarnoff Research Center actually in West Windsor) area for many years.

Watching the Brewers this post season reminds me a lot of last year’s Knick run.
no real superstars but just playing the game the way it should be played and everyone just doing their job.

it’s been fun to watch

Ron Darling will be back at SNY. Said he was trying to be smart and funny but was neither. Said if Gary and Keith are there and SNY want him back he wants to be there. Said he is extremely lucky to be on SNY.

For the 2027 international amateur signing period (projected to open January 15, 2027, pending collective bargaining talks), the Mets are heavily linked to top Dominican shortstop prospect Euniel De La Cruz.

All these annoying, meaningless post-elimination games have finally ended. Time to FIRE UP THE HOT STOVE!

This year will of course be different. The stove gets shut off on December 2, and who knows when it will be re-started. The question is, between now and then, will the stove be blazing, or only lukewarm?

I thought, and still think, that the large market owners will be cautious until the new CBA is in place. But most analysts believe that signing activity will be en fuego, as teams look to set their rosters before the shutdown. I guess we'll know soon enough.

I think we'll see at least one somewhat big move from the Mets before the lockout.

First piece of business will be Bichette. I believe he has 5 days from today to announce the opt in or out so should find out by Monday.

Somewhat OT but worth noting. After the game last night, Pat Murphy was overheard saying the following to Jake Bauers:

"You're going to be a rich f---er. Just remember when you were on that horses--t Yankees team and you guys were all playing for yourselves? Just remember, say 'This is the way we used to do it.'"

My guess is that Bichette has pretty much decided to stay, but his agent is making some calls just to validate that decision.

The Bichette decision is complete guesswork, though I'd think that CBA uncertainty might tip him toward not exercising his option. It's may be the biggest variable impacting his decision, and predicting the future is difficult business. He could opt out and try to sign in November. But that's risky business. It took him way more time last year to sign.

Bichette would prove out to be the biggest idiot in sports to opt out of a contract that will pay him double his worth next year. And it gives him the chance to re-establish himself as a top tier player.

Even if someone wants to offer him a 5+ year deal - it would most likely be under $30M per, if that. Let's say there is some part of a season next year- the only way he hurts himself is to be even worse then he was this year. Most likely though- he would perfom closer to his 2nd half numbers and then his next contract is bigger, plus he got the extra year at 42

Mets begin Hot Stove season with an interesting waiver pickup - Kyren Paris, a 24 year old utility guy. He hasn't hit at all in 232 major league AB's over portions of four seasons with the Angels. But in 2024, which isn't all that long ago, he was their #4 prospect. So there's that.

Maybe you will never hear his name again. Maybe you will. If you do, remember where you heard it first.

To make room on the 40 man, Cristian Pache was DFA'd. Certainly no surprise there. When you are on an MLB roster for almost two full months, and get a total of eight AB's, the message isn't exactly subtle.

On edit: Dicomo ended up deleting this for some reason but it was about 40 man roster moves.

I know the name but don't want to be the one to give it up. My father-in-law worked for RCA Records in various places and they had these all over their house. We have one of them now! It seems like every personal or production award had one of him on it, with or without the Victrola. In the So Jersey town where I grew up, seemed like half the dads worked in the Camden facility (until many sadly got laid off, late 60's/early 70') and my grandmother, a Rosie the Riveter type worked in their paint shop in Moorestown for years, right off the TP/295.

MLB Trade Rumors reported that the Mets DFA'd Eric Wagaman, Philip Abner, and Cameron Weston. Wagaman we know, the other two we haven't yet met, and likely never will.

This reduced the 40-man roster to 40, as is required. It had been at 43, including three players who had been on the 60 day IL.

More cuts will be required at some point, to make room for free agent signings, and rookies who will need to be protected.

Koosman recorded the final out in the 1969 World Series. Nine years later, he was traded for Jesse Orosco, who went on to record the final out in the 1986 World Series.
Good one. I didn't know that.
How the world has changed. In that Series 9 of the 10 starting pitchers went at least 6 innings and four threw complete games. Seaver's CG was 10 innings.
Compare to the two inning guys and the "can't face the lineup the third time through" nonsense today.
Average game time was about 2:20.

My favorite stat in that regard is that the original 1962 Mets had more complete games (43) than wins (40).
