I know exactly what we had with Franklin. A terrible in-game coach that shuffled offensive and defensive coaches hoping to catch lightning in a bottle. He recruited OK, but honestly he didn't hit it out of the ballpark. He was never able to maximize the talent he had available to him evidenced by the fact that he produced good NFL talent but they were always better as pros than they were during their time at PSU. He could never win a game where the opposing team had equal or better-quality talent. His biggest concern was always his ego. He just loved to run up the score on lesser quality opponents especially when he had a grudge against their coach. He acted like a jackass to reporters and fans who grew sick of his show.

There were a lot of job openings last year. But he ended up at Virginia Tech. Not Michigan, LSU, Florida, Auburn, Arkansas, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, UCLA or Utah.

Certainly the hiring of Campbell could have been handled much better but we made the right decision firing Franklin and in the long run we're going to be much better for it.

The long-run??? Both of these coaches have LT trackrecords within P4 schools. Franklin's all-time Head Coaching record is 134-62 (128-60 in B1G and SEC, 6-2 in ACC). Door Matt's all-time Head Coaching record is 110-74 (60% winning % 35-15 @ Toledo, 72-55 at ISU and 3-4 at PSU) and 75-59 (56% winning %) at P4 schools (IOW, his all-time record is boosted by a 35-15 record in the MAC and his 75-59 P4 record was built in the second-tier P4 Conf B12..... while Franklin's SIGNIFICANTLY better LT trackrecord is essentially 100% the result of playing in the SIGNIFICANTLY more difficult SEC and B1G).

Utterly laughable to claim that we are in a better situation now than under Franklin - just beyond laughable as well as anti-factual made up bs and spin in defense of Dr. Clown (who not only created this situation, but then bypassed a Head Coaching choice that could have saved him and made him look like a genius - Bob Chesney, who made it known that he WANTED THE OPEN PSU JOB, but Dr. Clown would have none of it as it interferred with his trainwreck, awful decision-making!).

Anybody who can look at these two trackrecords and come to the conclusion that Door Matt is the better coach is a bonafide mental-midget moron.

I did not hate BGJ, but was fine that PSU moved on. Reading you post however, you can’t reconcile he didn’t recruit well, but he put a lot of people in the NFL who were better when they got there. Also inconsistent is he couldn’t win a game with equal or lesser talent, yet he didn’t recruit well in beating everyone except OSU and a cheating UM pre 2025. Make up your mind.

I get everything else, and if that was enough to move on, own it. But we can’t say we are better off from a football perspective, and “No One” was saying let’s fire BGJ, and we going to be under .500 in the big ten next year with a QB who can’t hit an open receiver 20 years out more than 20% of the time and we are happy with it.
