Notice how successful the QB read was..........

If you're so afraid to do it but once or twice a game because you're worried about injuries, you need to get the f*** out of coaching football.

Doesn't matter how you feel about your QBs as runners, and if you don't trust them as runners then you've failed at evaluating QBs to find the best player for the position.

Iowa's run game will never be successful enough for actual success without the threat of the QB at the very least being able to tuck and run when pass options aren't open, and when you occasionally pull it and keep on a read option.

I know people point to Hecklinksi's lack of career yards rushing, but we've been told he's mobile, so LET HIM USE HIS F***ING LEGS AND SEE WHAT HE CAN DO...........

There were 10 times that we handed it off into a wall that if the QB had kept it it goes for 5 or 10+ yards. Cool stuff.
Too worried about their frail frames. Hecklinski is too wild and can't be trusted to run, and Hank is so slow he can only do it once a game when the other team is completely fooled, which means they'll never be fooled again after that one play.

The QB keeping the ball on a read option is considered a trick play to Kirk Ferentz. Use them once every 6 years...........otherwise the poor wittle QB might get hurt and we'll have to use the backup QB who shouldn't even be on the roster of a D1 CFB team (Kirk Ferentz, probably, or should I say definitely based on his near-30 yr career)....................

Hank looked plenty quick enough on his 13 yard keeper. If you are going to be in shotgun and RPO type stuff then the QB needs to keep the ball when it is open

1. Notice Iowa had a dual threat qb last season.

2. Notice he wasn't cheap.

3. Notice he had to play hurt.

4. Notice he didn't start getting comfortable, in what's known to be a complicated offense, until the last 3rd of the season. And notice he was a 4.0 engineering student.

5. KF needs to get the f out of coaching football? Why wouldn't you at least want to appear to be credible?

6. Notice how there are very few true dual threat QB's.

7. Notice how they are pretty much impossible to build a program around, as it would require having a room full of them.

8. Notice how a room full of dual threats will never produce the passifier game that so many fans think is essential.

9. Notice how Iowa has had successfull running games for the better part of 2 decades.

10. Notice how Iowa has two QBs capable of tuck and running, and the occasional read option keep.

Notice how we haven't had a good QB that can complete simple passes for almost a decade?

Well, it's because the scout on Brown is that he's not a runner.

But that one keeper was the ONLY gotdam time we did it.

That's gutless.
But the color guy on the broadcast kept insisting that Brown was Iowa's "running quarterback." He kept saying it, so I had to stop and think, "Is that right?" And then I thought, "Nope."

I'm honestly surprised with as much b****ing about the announcers that people do every week, that more wasn't made about just how f***ing cringe that crew was on Saturday.

I normally don't give a f*** like most people do, but even I had to mute them after a while.

Hank has more straight-line speed than Heck, so if he's too slow to be a running threat...

Neither appear to be great at running, or throwing. But it's RIDICULOUS when teams run the read option when it's obvious the QB can't/won't pull and run or throw. It just makes the play even slower and allows the defense to crash down and suffocate the play even faster. Its annoying.
