We were up 14-0 at half and were even on turnovers at that point which was huge for us. Up 21-7 with 6 minutes to go in the game. We gave a long pass to West for the TD. 21-14. They then kicked the onside which was a very good kick and we misplayed the bounce, they recovered. They drove down and scored again, 21-21. We get the ball back with 3-minutes to go. It was really odd but it really looked we were just playing for overtime at this point, which I just don’t think is the best strategy unless you feel like you’re a highly inferior team and we shouldn’t have at that point. Nevertheless we have to punt. West gets it and can’t do much with it. West gets the ball first in OT and scores on a QB scramble but we block the extra point. We score on our second play and then our young sophomore kicker/soccer player who has only played football this year, secures the win. Great ending for him and the team! Glad that we won the game just wish we would have been a little more aggressive with our playcalling while playing with a lead early.

ZERO unforced turnovers for us on the night and we won the turnover battle 2interceptions to 1. Huge for us right now.
West has a very solid sophomore QB that is going to be tough in the future.

Mark my words, if West continues to run this style offense and the QB develops you will see kids will want to move into this district to play in their offense in the next few years. It is definitely an offense kids will want to be a part of and some parents of skill position players will want it to.

You have to sit out a year in HC if you transfer.

When did this change? They’ve always been open to it if it was inside the county schools. Outside the county, yes, it was fought majorly and opposed, especially if a kid was trying to leave for Buncombe.

Henderson County high school students who transfer lose a year of eligibility for any sport that they were on the eligibility roster for at their previous high school.

Ok, sorry to misphrase it but kids will want to play there and some parents will want it also. It may happen pre-high school but people will want to play in that system enough to say a kid is living with another family member,etc and this can be done before high school. If it is a legitimate “move”, it’s hard to police and it happens these days. I’m not trying to poke holes in the system, just complimenting the coach’s style because he’s doing what kids are after these days.

Already deal with this with my son. I know at least 5 kids from other county schools that did not move in district. You are right they are state rule about transfers , but lot countys school boards do not follow it.

Thoughts on tonight’s games?

I think Tuscola & Pisgah roll to easy victories. I like West over North. “The Battle of Cowee Mnt” always makes me nervous but I’ll take Franklin to defeat Smoky.

I believe you are correct. Your game will be the best one tonight. I believe the panthers take it .

If Franklin plays to their capability and Smoky does likewise, Franklin should win this one easily. Franklin’s more versatile and what Smoky does well on offense plays right into Franklin’s strength.
West should handle North. Tuscola needs to work on challenging Hansen at QB against these next two opponents, which should be easy Mountie wins, in preparation for a playoff run. Use these games to build his confidence.

Pisgah should win our next two but our turnover problems, if not fixed, can allow us to lose to anybody. Our goal needs to be to execute crisply not just come out of these games with wins while still playing sloppy.

Unbelievable!!! Panthers march down the field to score easily but the Smoky returns another long KO for a TD. Smoky’s offense hasn’t touched the field and they have 14 already. Not the start the Panthers we’re looking for!

Nightmare scenario unfolding in Sylva for the Panthers. Young has been injured and is on the sideline. Panthers drive deep but throw a pick and the Mustangs are now deep in Panther territory.

Lol!!! Panthers break a huge play and fumble, Smoky recovers on their 23. 2 KO returns and 2 TO’s in the 1Q + the Panthers star RB/LB is on the sideline. On to the 2Q. Panthers need to settle and stop
The run.

28-7 Smoky with 4:32 left in the 2Q. Panthers are imploding at this point. Penalties killed them on this drive. Game isn’t over but Panthers have to run clock, score, and then score again on the 2nd half KO to have a chance. Not looking good in Sylva!

Never thought I’d see this day as a Panthers fan. Franklin has gone almost exclusively pass. Panthers hit a 45yd TD pass. 28-14 Smoky. Smoky able to run the ball which doesn’t bode well for the Panthers. Franklin need to hold here 1:10 left.

Get the players to flush the 1st half, that’s really hard to do in an away/rivalry game. The opening drive of the 2nd half is critical! If the Panthers can score they are back in it. If they don’t the game is probably over. Fun times in Sylva….😳

Questionable call on 4th down by Coach Brooks and they don’t convert. QB sneak goes for 41 & a TD! 35-14 and this one is all but over.
