How much NBA talent does this team have? Specifically First Round talent?

The only person I would even consider taking 1st rd would be Mom. Moreno is an outdated big who can’t shoot 15 feet out and has stones as feet. He has potential but he’s never going to get more athletic.

I think we have a few. . . Milan, Moreno, Diallo, Wilkins, N'Diaye all could play their way into the first round I think. Not sure why everyone is so down on the talent level.
Not one of those guys will ever go in the first round. Wilkins possibly could at some point but he's the only one

Moreno is a first rounder, you just don’t understand basketball if you think otherwise. But that’s about it on this team.

Zoom isn’t a second rounder, much less first.

Moreno is the only one and he’ll be a fringe first at that

Good lord this pure delusion. So you think Milan, who was borderline even being drafted if he came out after one of the best shooting seasons ever is suddenly going to jump to the first round? He’s fine regardless of draft status though.

It’s the rest of the team that I don’t have faith in. Moreno and Wilkins MIGHT play their way into the first round in a couple years but both will have to take big jumps.

Diallo will do good just to get drafted at all and same for any of the rest.

This is the most talented group of players Pope has had so far. This is his make or break season I believe.

Zoom isn't the PG many within BBN expect. He lead a Washington team to a 16-17 record last year for a reason.
I realize the team dynamic is different now but so is the pressure. The bar has been raised.

If Milan again this year shoots a very high percentage on very high volume and I do say if, he’ll be picked up by somebody late first round.

There is one player with first round possibility- Moreno. His draft depends on his ability to shoot the ball beyond the paint consistently. Everyone else is a second round or non-draft pick.

Wanna bet? After which season? Not this one… He’s probably the softest 7 footer I’ve ever seen mentioned being on the NBA radar, but most of that is hype and propaganda put out by Pope!

Seriously, just look at the talent at his position, but then again, I guess I don’t know anything about basketball 🙄

1. Zoom overseas, Wilkins unsure, Milan maybe 2nd round, N’diaye and Hawthorne both unsure. Moreno is probably the only one. Kam Williams hell no, and frank is a big hell no!
Kentucky doesn’t have the coach to get 1st round talent!

Pope has repeatedly reinforced that the hope in this team is the high ceiling of some young players. That is scary to hear. The top talent on the team, other than MilMom, are young players. Wilkins can be a first rounder but will he show that this year? Mal could be a first rounder, but can he improve enough to get into that conversation? MilMom could play himself into the first round, but because he has probably nearly reached his ceiling, that is not as likely. NDaiye has first round potential but I think he would need to make a major jump to reach it this year.

Diallo does not appear to have that potential. Hawthorne MAY have that potential, but he has to improve a great deal, I think.

Mason Williams just has to improve enough to play like a sophomore. :)

Just to be clear about Moreno: Everyone watched the game against Little Rock. A lot of people watched the Louisville game against Kansas. Who would you rather have - the Louisville freshman Ekezy or Moreno?
The freshman at UL. But that does not mean Moreno is not a first rounder.

Moreno depending on how he improves could be mid to late first round.

Noah is borderline first round but could get there with the year hes projected to have.

Milan kinda is what he is, he will play in the NBA but I don't think hes a first rounder.

The wildcard is Wilkins. If he plays to his full potential I could see him near the lotto but I could also see him floundering.

I don't think anyone but Moreno (he's probably late first, early second currently) could be considered first round talent today.

Milan is mid 2nd and "could" play his way into the late first if his defense and rebounding improves. But likely stays mid 2nd as a bench shooter pickup.

Wilkins has measurables that project well for an NBA prospect but would have to play his way into it with a stellar season.

Zoom would have to have an All-American season to sniff the NBA.

Uzi is similar to Wilkins in having the measurables the scouts like, and has unique length, speed, and athleticism at his size. He's again a play his way into it with a great season type of situation.

Hawthorne is only a positive in measurables. He will probably be a future pro, but 99% unlikely to be anytime soon.

Kam "was" a projected future first rounder when he left Tulane for UK. But I'm sure his foot injuries have probably all but nailed the coffin shut on that anytime soon.

Wildcard. Mason Williams could become an NBA player someday, but is not on that level and probably won't be for this year at least.

Basically a bunch of "maybe if they play their way in" guys. No sure fire First Rounders. No without a doubt lottery guys.

I think Momcilovic could play his way up, but he has to contribute more defensively(isolation metrics are down while his team defense stats are elite) and in rebounding. He's a very good 3pt shooter, but he's not a great scorer. You'd expect a guy who shoots like he does to score more than 3.8 points from 2 and 1.9 points from the foul line. He gets others shots because of his shooting ability, but he is more of a keeps the ball moving guy than a create an assist guy. "Gravity assists"

Right now he is more of a specialist. While that one specialty is great the rest of his game needs vast improvement. Which is crazy sounding when you look at his 6.2 WS last season and his decent 21.2

Moreno could be a first rounder, but he must get in to a lot better shape. While he didn't have a lot of help and teams keyed in on him a heck of a lot more the last two-thirds of the season and you can say that wore the freshmen down, but even before that slide he had way too many games of 25 or less minutes even to start the season. He shows a lot brief flashes, but until he gets a lot better conditioned he is going to be a guy with potential more than a guy with actual ability.

Good post. Hawthorne is interesting. He does have the measurables, except even with a year in the weight room he still doesn’t have the frame. He appears to be a smooth athlete but still looks like he is thinking through it, rather than reacting. He has a nice catch and shoot form, looks comfortable. Seems to have a passer’s vision and awareness. Sort of a jack of all trades master of none right now. That from one game.

So, if that was his best performance, the season may be tough and a growing experience. If that was closer to his floor as someone who is still gaining confidence and understanding, he could be a real contributor come mid-January and could get one some radars, but not as a first rounder.
