No no no in this world it's all about liability whose fault is it I made a bad decision!***
But in all honesty, as a ER physician the timeline to that I found online doesn't seem like there was any bad advice except the stay up for 36 hours which I think was probably misunderstanding. He initially had a superficial thrombophlebitis by what I'm reading. Typical treatment is 81mg aspirin and warm compress. It unfortunately we extended into a deeper vein. Not sure there is any liability here, it's a risk. After it became a dvt he should have been place on anticoagulation (Eliquis, Xarelto or coumadin) for 6 months so that's why he's on IR no one would be playing the American Football on those meds .
DateEvent / Milestone
Oct. 4, 2026Hurts suffers a calf injury after getting cleated during a game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Oct. 8, 2026Hurts informs team medical staff of the calf issue after practice.
Oct. 10, 2026A superficial blood clot (superficial vein thrombosis) is discovered in Hurts' left calf by specialists during a walk-through visit at the Cleveland Clinic in London.
Oct. 11, 2026Hurts plays in the Eagles' Week 5 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London and flies back to Philadelphia.
Oct. 14, 2026A follow-up ultrasound in Philadelphia reveals that the superficial clot has moved.
Oct. 15, 2026The Eagles officially rule Hurts out for their upcoming Week 6 game against the Carolina Panthers.
Oct. 17, 2026Following consultations with medical experts, the Eagles place Hurts on Injured Reserve (IR).
Oct. 19, 2026The Eagles and agent Nicole Lynn release a joint statement announcing an updated diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli (clots in both lungs), shutting him down for the remainder of the season while he begins treatment with blood thinners.
Oct. 20, 2026Reports emerge that the NFL reviewed the situation and concluded the Eagles handled the medical clearance for Week 5 appropriately without issuing a punishment.

Idiotic. It will be interesting to see if the NFLPA files a grievance and calls for further investigation. Doubt we’ve heard the last of this.
If his career is over, and it looks like it could be, I would think he’s got a valid lawsuit against the doctors & the team.

Why would his career be over? This is a 6 month on anticoagulants and then off, he had a reason for the Clots (trauma) , I assume he hasn't had one in the past if that's the case then maybe it's over because he has a undiagnosed clotting disorder. But no his career isn't over from a dvt secondary to trauma that then broke off and went to his lungs. Assuming he also doesn't have any significant heart strain and lasting weakened heart muscle.

Wonder if someone gets fired for keeping this Sunday's game in Paris during the riots ?
Sending Saints & Steelers to Paris this week. What could possibly go wrong? I guess if it’s not covered by the “mainstream media” it isn’t really happening.

Your info is a bit off. The clot was discovered before he checked in at the Cleveland Clinic. Not during a “walk-through visit”. What even is that? Eagles have still not publicly disclosed who made the initial diagnosis, but Rapaport’s sources stated it was the team medical staff using a portable ultrasound machine. Cleveland Clinic is where he checked in and was kept awake there until 4 AM. Hardly a “walk-through visit”.

And him being told to “stay up for 36 hours” wasn’t a misunderstanding. It actually happened. The Eagles best attempt to refute that part was “he slept for a little bit after he got to the stadium”. Lol. Like that’s normal.

NFL’s excuse for no punishment is that league currently has no independent medical evaluation requirement in CBA for clots like they do for concussions. That’s their excuse. Apparently saying that an abysmal failure of the medical staff due to profound lack of common sense and/or coercion by team brass is totally acceptable. It’s pathetic.

Hasn't the game been canceled because of the riots?
According to Paul Taglibue, they’re mostly peaceful protests. Meanwhile at least 1 Pittsburgh tv station has cancelled their on site coverage of the game & will cover it from Pittsburgh.

This is one of those stories where everyone becomes an expert and has a strong opinion and they don't really know a GD thing about it.
I’m a doctor, and I agree. I haven’t looked into it a lot, but I certainly haven’t seen enough details reported for me to make a call on anything

There’s a huge gulf between the potential of something happening and it actually happening.

Think of drinking and driving, you can do it a dozen times and nothing happen, then on the 13th time you get caught by a roadblock. There’s no consequences until something bad actually happens.
