Oklahoma is not a good football team

Sooners have an elite defense. Their offense is doody but for the middle 2 quarters they looked like they were starting to figure something out even on offense. One deflection leading to an interception and it was off to the races for the Cats. The Sooner QB is not good. He missed a LOT of open dudes tonight thankfully.
I don’t know what is wrong with him, he looked pretty good in stretches and. He was better last year.

Really nice D. Unfortunately for Venables that isn’t enough in today’s game.

Seems like a great dude and coach that players love but he’s got to find some points.

He’s old school though like a lot of coaches in his generation, especially the defensive guys. It’s hard for them.

More rigid unwilling, maybe unable to accept change than coaches are fans.

9-10 wins for OU is uncomfortable but a reality. The days of dominating are over. Kentucky and both Mississippis can beat ya.

It’s starting to hit UGA and Bama too.
He's made some REALLY BAD OC hires, which is going to be his undoing. In his six seasons he's had one legit OC, Jeff Lebby. All the rest have been bad. Arbuckle will be the nail in his coffin. He was basically forced on him in large part to get Mateer. It's obvious to anyone watching, he's in way over his head. Didn't have experience for the job he's doing. I don't get it, I think Venables does a great job on the defensive side. It just shouldn't be hard to get a quality OC at OU, but I guess a lot of places have the same issue.

I wish we could have played a better second half against Bama. It was only Minchey’s second game though. Kinda a tough ask. Our defense got wore out in that second half.
Say it all time on here when scheduling comes up.

Worst thing UK has always done is play OOC puffs too early. Playing EMU and Youngstown before SEC opponents doesn’t do anything.

UL game needs to be moved back to first game of season.

Bama practices against Bama all offseason. An incredible advantage over even good teams.

Had we played UL or a comparable type of program prior to Bama I think that game ends differently.

We have really small margins everywhere, but especially on the defensive side. We were without and then lost some key pieces during the game. Finished the game basically playing 11 guys on defense, and something like 4 of them were 2 and 3 deep guys. Bad recipe against a Bama, even though I don't think their offense is great. It was just the perfect storm for a disaster in the second half. Assuming we stay healthy, I sure wouldn't mind another crack at them. But I also think that game served a purpose. It showed the things this team absolutely can not do if they're going to remain competitive to everyone on the schedule.

Oklahomas defense is awesome, all of Venables defenses have been really good. His next job will probably be DC at a powerhouse program like he was at Clemson. Coordinators don’t always make good head coaches, seems like Kentucky has found an exception to the rule. Jon Ray was great at Notre Dame as Defensive coordinator and terrible as head coach at Kentucky. Joker Philips was a good OC but terrible head coach, that’s two good examples of why it doesn’t always work out.

I agree here....

Grabbing a hot offensive guy from old PAC 10 and his QB from Washington St....it doesn't always translate to SEC.
1. Oklahoma run game has been below par from the get go. All they do is space you out, run read option (which is nearly 95% RB carry or QB keeper....dont' see them throw off it hardly). So defense just sits on run game in obvious downs
2. Passing iwth Mateer.....he is just not top end passer/decision maker out there.
3. Their route concepts are pretty basic...no hidden coverages, not a ton of motions/shifts to confuse the D.

Now next year they will lose Mateer and I guess go back to the high rated FR QB route? Venables is Stoops with better talent and somehwat better schematics on defense.

I was arguing with an Oklahoma fan on some site about three years ago saying they wouldn’t dominate the SEC like they did the old Southwest and Big 12. Told them there wouldn’t be anymore 12 and 0 or 11 and 1 seasons here. They said I was crazy and that they could play with the SEC powerhouses. I told him there were to many on the schedule each week to beat them all, they still disagreed. Then I told him it’s the Mississippi States and Ole miss’s are the ones that will get you, he laughed, he’s not Laughing now. Little did I know Kentucky would beat them the first time they played, and in Norman, they also should have beaten Texas last year. Fans from other schools just don’t get it until they see how tough the SEC really is. Also the Sooners and Longhorns are lucky Auburn and Florida have been down a few years and Florida has already beaten Texas twice and the Sooners travel to Florida soon and Florida and Auburn still are not the teams they were just a few years ago. Both of those Big Twelve teams probably wish they were back in that conference, SEC is just to tough.
